You got the RAM upgrade then? Hope it went smoothly?

Anyhoo, as for what to get next - if your mobo does RAID then get a second 80GB harddisk and stripe them - you'll get nearly twice the performance from your HDD(s)... Oh, and again this is one of those things where it's best to get exactly the same model HDD as you've already got - if I understand the tech correctly I believe they must be the same capacity - getting the same make and model will ensure that it'll work smoothly. I've not yet striped drives myself, but I understand, from an IT-guru friend, that you can even stripe an existing drive without losing any data...

If you're mobo doesn't do RAID, then a new HDDs still not going to hurt - in this case I would use your existing 80GBer for just windows XP and install a second drive for data - that way if you ever need to reformat and reinstall XP you won't need to back up all your data first! Actually, even with one HDD you should really put data onto a seperate partition from XP, if you don't already, for exactly the same reasons.

A new soundcard isn't going to hurt either - you'd probably be wise to go with a creative if you're going to go down this route, unless you do alot of sound editing/recording/processing (in which case you'll be wanting a sound card that designed for this type of thing) - but, if you just play games, watch the odd movie and the like then something like a creative X-Fi will rock...

i hope so to lol, i orderd it online so it should come thie week or next,  the hard drive thingy sounds complicated for my simple mind , although.....   IF i bought a new internal hard drive that was say 160gb an took the old out (would sell it or something)  would i been to do all the complicated stuff?  or would it just be as simple as plugging it in an installing windows again (wouldnt mind doing that, had to format an put windows on when i got my new mobo n CPU)

as for the soundcard, i know nothing about them, what would the difference be with a new sound card?  clearer? my speekers make it sound pritty good atm.....

thanks for that kick ass reply though

go for a western digital rapter drive, load win xp on it (or what ever OS you use) the WD rapter drive is a 10,000rpm SATA drive ive got a 2 36.7GB ones running in raid so if one dies i still have one that will work, on mine all ive got loaded is win xp BF2 and all the other crap like virus scanners you know the system software i also have a backup IDE drive on which is stored mostly porn and music (although the porns gotta go gf doesnt like it i dont know why...) as for RAM you have plenty so dont worry about it there, you have a nice processor and a ok gfx card, futre improvmetns would be the sound card like somebody said, i have a x-fi fatility one (i know we all hate him but i got it cheap well free) and it gives amazing sound changes the way the whole game sounds through onbored sound which is well crappy, also id do something about the gfx card maybe if you had the money go up to a 7800GT which is PCI-e im guessing you have AGP so think about changing to PCI-e coz thts what everything is going to move to, although i am a AGP man myself and will allways be a ATi man even though there drivers suck eggs, if you wanted to add more RAM go for it lol i have 8GB which just means i can play and video encode at the same time

hope you found some of that usful

2) my current mobo doesnt support PCI-E, AND, i just got this 6800GT afew days ago so i dont think ill be buying a new gfx card any time soon lol

soundcard is the way ill go for my next upgrade in say a month, or two.
