I has 1GB when i forst started playing BF2 - load times were long and I got crazy jerkiness at the start of evry round for about a minute or two, plus I would get random laggy patches during the game and bizzarely quiting out of bf2 to the desktop took ages as well.

Upgraded to 2Gb and all this went away.  Load times are much faster (I am often one of the first ones into the game) nad i get no more crazy lag

Go for 2Gb isa all i can say!!!

Are you _the_ RedEye? If so, what have you been wasting all the money you must have got from your (sorely missed) Edge column on if not a better spec PC?

Im running windows xp 32 bit with 4 gigs of installed ram. Windows only recognizes 3072 megs, but i havent noticed any real problems. And my load times on battlefield 2 are INSANE. (fast enough that i have to wait 5-10 seconds for the game start cooldown to finish in most cases).

so with this setup, what kind of RAM should i get...what brand, or a link maybe? just need some input.

CPU: AMD 64 3500+ (possibly 4000+ or something)

VGA: eVGA 7800GT

MOBO: ASUS A8n-SLI

PSU: ThermalTake 500W

(i havent built this yet...thanks in advance)

depends what your budget is. If you have more than 200 dollars (american) to spend on ram i would suggest some nice dual channel ddr 400, I use corsair and I love it. You can get a matched pair of 1gb sticks from corsair for about $190 (2gb total) http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe … e=80097-41

It really depends how much memory you want and how much youre willing to spend. I would suggest dual channel though, your motherboard supports it and it does make a difference.

Heh, can't belive my eyes here. You actually claim that there are performance differences with 2G vs 1G? Perhaps on the newest graphics cards it is. I have a Radeon 9800XT with an Athlon XP@2,4GHz and I upgraded from 1GB to 1,5GB and had no change whatsoever! Tried to increase the texture quality but then the fps dropped instead. But I've heard that BF2 can consume 1,4GB of ram but I reccon you have to have hefty HW then.
But no less that 1GB shall ever be used.

oh, and I use win2k. Perhaps thats why I have more free memory for BF2 ;D
