I was wondering if anyone could give me a link to a tutorial about how to remove the background in photoshop. Most of you use this in your sigs and I have never found a good tutorial on how to do it.
What, like cut out an image?
Either you can go to planetrenders.net and they come pre-cut for you, or you just use the magnetic lasso tool, which can be a pain sometimes.
There maybe a better way, but I don't know of it.

Use the magic wand first, then go over to the eraser...

like my sig right now, i don't know how stryyker did it. i broke his arm so he can't use a computer any more
use a layer mask, erasing stuff is irreversible later on. using a layer mask allows you to undo it at any point. (history only stores up to 25 actions).
choose the layer you want to work with.
go to layer (at the top) > layer mask > reveal all
make sure you have the new layer mask chosen in the layer menu
take the paintbrush tool and paint over the background. black removes, white adds.
hope that helps. this way you can go back and re add any part of the back ground or fix any mistakes, unlike with erasing.

He just used a transparent background instead of a white one. That way, whatever background you put your sig on, it shows up.
i use a mask, then use things like the wand to do color selects, then apply the selection to the mask, after i chop away most of the stuff first.
