“Microsoft wants to transform the way multiplayer action games are played, and
with Shadowrun, it has an impressive case for change.” – Gamespot.com
For the first time Vista and 360 players will be able to play each other online
http://shadowrun.com/
Shadowrun is a multiplayer only first-person shooter introducing mild cyberpunk elements to the gameplay. The game takes place in Brazil in the year 2031: before the events that shaped the Shadowrun universe.
The player will choose from two factions to play as, the megacorp RNA Global and the resistance group known as The Lineage. Playable races are Human, Elf, Troll and Dwarf. Each race has their own racial traits (Humans can equip more Tech, while Elves can regenerate health, and Dwarves suck essence, while Trolls turn to stone while taking damage, etc).
Players will purchase magic, tech, and weapons in between each round of play. Magic will include teleportation, resurrection, and a castable tree of life that will slowly heal any players that stand near it, turning into smoke
for invulnerability, summoning a monster to do your bidding, casting a field of lethal crystals, and blowing a powerful gust at enemies and objects. Purchasable tech items include enhanced vision, which allows the player to see through walls, a glider, which enables short distance flight, wired reflexes, which greatly increases your physical attributes, anti-magic generators, Smartlink, which gives you greater accuracy and other specific advantages. Weapons include a sniper rifle, SMG, a shotgun, a minigun, a semi auto rifle, a rocket launcher, and a katana for assassinations and ninja style tactics.
Enviroments
After the disaster of 2025 and the subsequent construction of the RNA arcology, Santos became a city of extremes.
On one end of the city was the shiny new RNA arcology, towering more than one hundred stories over the city. Packed with modern technology, it’s a shining glass and steel icon of the unparalleled power of today’s megacorporations.
Sitting across the city as a counterpoint are the Slums. Vertical shanty towns perch precariously over tight, twisty roads. Graffiti is everywhere and every building is in desperate need of repair. While RNA has almost complete control over its arcology, in the slums the people rule and RNA never enters with less than a full squad of heavily armed security.
Just outside the city sits the recently exposed ziggurat. Both the cause and victim of the Santos disaster, the ziggurat remains a mystery even to those who study it. It’s known to be a confluence of magical power, but no one understands how to control it. If any one place encapsulates the danger now enveloping Santos, it is the ziggurat.

Game Types
Raid
The Raid gametype requires the attacking team to capture a magical artifact and deliver it to the extraction area. The defending team must stop the attackers from escaping with the artifact.
The artifact always starts in the same place and only the attackers can carry it. If it is dropped and not picked back up, it will eventually return to its initial location.
With one side on offense and the other on defense Raid is the most tactical gametype, often feeling like a high speed chess match with magic and machine guns.
Extraction
In Extraction the artifact starts in the center of the map. Both teams can pick the artifact up. Each team wants to bring the artifact to a separate extraction area on the opposite side of the map from where they start.
Extraction is the more fast paced and frantic than raid. Both sides are after the same thing so combat happens faster and is faster paced when it does happen.
Attrition
In both Raid and Extraction a team can win by eliminating the other team. In attrition that is the only way to win. There is no artifact to capture and control. Instead there is only the destruction of the enemy team. It’s pretty simple. The last team standing wins.
Weapons
The weapons of Shadowrun™ are designed to fit any play style. Do you enjoy coming upon your opponent silently and dealing death from up close and personal? Try the katana. Do you feel better if you can reach out and touch someone from a distance? Then go for the Sniper Rifle or even the Rocket Launcher. Maybe you like being a jack of all trades, able to mix it up with just about anyone at any time. The SMG, Rifle, or Minigun may be to your liking.
But where the weapons of Shadowun really shine is in combination with tech and magic. You may already like swinging the Katana, but mix in the wired reflexes tech and all of a sudden you can use the blade to deflect incoming bullets, keeping you from taking damage as you close on your target.
The Minigun has a windup time, meanwhile, but with a little forethought you can use enhanced vision to see your opponents on the other side of a wall, spin up the minigun in advance, and teleport through the wall when it’s charged up and ready to fire.
Get in close with the shotgun, blast your opponents a couple times, then pop Smoke and run away, secure in your invulnerability. And nothing makes a Rifle more useful than the added level of zoom Smartlink provides.
So choose your weapon carefully, but make sure it fits in with your magic and tech as well.
Races
Humans
The main strength of the Human is that he has no weaknesses. He isn’t the slowest of the races, or the weakest, or the easiest target. But he also does not have the more amazing abilities of the other races to fall back on as well.
What Humans do have is an aptitude for technology hard won after five thousand years of struggling without magic. Humans pay a much lower essence cost for tech upgrades than the other races. While an elf, by example, has a much higher base essence than a human if both the elf and the human used a wide variety of tech abilities the human’s essence pool would barely be touched. The elf, on the other hand, would have his essence pool devastated.
Another advantage humans bring to the table is a side effect of the prejudice that metahumans find in the workplace. To put it simply, humans have more money. When a human enters a match he begins with more to spend than the other races.
Humans are capable of filling any role in a battle. Be it scout, sniper, frontal assault etc the human is more than capable of filling it. But they pay for that by not excelling at any of them.
Strengths: Low essence penalty for tech, greater starting money Weaknesses: None Recommended Tech: Enhanced Vision, Smartlink, Wired Reflexes Recommended Magic: Tree of Life, Teleport ElfElves, like the Trolls, are a race of extremes. They are the fastest of the races, enabling them to move in and out of combat effectively. This is especially important when combined with the elven ability self heal. When an elf is out of combat they heal over time, eventually regaining full health. This makes the elf an extremely effective fast strike troop. A well played elf is very good at getting into combat, getting in a couple strikes then getting out and healing up. Healing takes essence though, so if the elf has no essence then he has no healing either. This is important because while elves excel at fast strike combat they are not shock troops. Elves have the lowest maximum health of any race and so, all other things being equal, the Elf will usually lose a straight up fight. The light elven build also causes issues when carrying heavy weapons. Elves are slowed down much more than the other races when carrying large weapons. This can not only eliminate the elven speed advantage but is sever enough where an elf with a minigun is actually the slowest race/weapon combination possible. The primary rule as an elf is to stay moving at all times. If an elf lets someone get a bead on him he will soon be shouting for a resurrect. Strengths: High movement speed, self healing Weaknesses: High movement speed penalty for heavy weapons, low health Recommended Tech: Enhanced Vision, glider Recommended Magic: Resurrect, Teleport, Smoke, Gust TrollTrolls are hard to ignore and easy to hit. When you’re nine feet in height, wider than most humans are tall, covered with dermal armor and mounting a pair of horns your head you tend to stand out. Luckily there is no race harder to kill than a troll. Not only does a troll start with more health than any other race they also have the ability to harden. As a troll takes damage the bony armor on his body expands, protecting him more. Basically the more you hurt a troll the harder it is to hurt the troll. The hardening goes away over time and it does use the troll’s essence so there are ways around it but if you just charge a troll shooting you will usually end up dead with a troll standing over your broken corpse.Trolls are, not shockingly, the slowest race but they take no penalty for carrying heavy weapons. A troll with a rocket launcher moves just as fast as a troll with a pistol. And there are few things scarier than a troll with a rocket launcher. Strengths: High Health, Hardening, no movement penalty for carrying heavy weapons Weaknesses: Low movement speed, big target, vulnerable to essence drain Recommended Tech: Wired Reflexes, Smartlink Recommended Magic: Tree of Life
Dwarf (Coming Soon)
