I used EA link, had no problem--downloaded it in about forty minutes. I just typed and surfed the net a bit while it finished.
Overall, the game runs fairly smooth on my rig, with most settings on high (AA at 2x). I run the following:
AMD 64 3500+
2 Gig Corsair Ram
GeForce 6800 Ultra (1x)
A8N-SLI Mobo
& OC'ed the processor by 3%. Yeah, I'm a wimp, I don't want to fry it by cranking it up.
I've played the C&C universe since the first one (minus Red alert), and honestly, I've always been hooked. the third installation has set the bar in terms of versatility, pace, intensity, and hopefully internet battles will not lock up into massive superweapon gayness like in Generals (from what I read, there's a 1x superweapon limit anyways).
Overall, I'm still getting used to the new interface, and relying solely on the hotkeys--once you memorize those, you can super-micro your entire army. Everything you need to access is only a click or two away, which I believe is the most critical part of any RTS that plays solidly. With the amount of commands you can issue (aggressive offense/defense, holding positions, moving backwards to protect flank armor, etc.) I'm sure that commanders will find all sorts of interesting tactics. You truly are only limited by your imagination. Time will tell if it can live up to the standards its predecessors set--I truly hope it does, and exceeds them.
