Man I just love this game. It's such a different experience than any other game out there, especially with the realistic settings at max and with the Mods the community has released.
The game puts you in the role of a German U-Boat Commander during the Second World War. You get to stalk the ocean lanes and observe the various new technologies and strategies that came about due to the U-Boat, such as Convoys, Radar, and Crude Homing Torpedoes. A very immersive 3d interior, and amazing Graphics and sound put you right in the battle, as distant depth charges explode, and your hull creaks and groans from the pressure around you.
Here's some screenshots of a Raid I went on in Scapa Flow (British Naval Base to the North of the Main Islands). I had 20-40 meters of water to work with and heavy defenses, but I still managed to sink 3 light Cruisers and a Fiji Heavy Cruiser that were moored. On my egress, I took moderate damage, and was forced to dock in Trondheim, Norway, just after it's fall to the German military.
Screenshot time:
Leaving Kiel in the midst of a Light Battlegroup (I'm the small shape on the right half that isn't bellowing smoke)
2nd Torpedo Impact on the Fiji (Final Blow)
My desktop for a while, I call this shot, "Guilty Conscience" Submerging, with 2 of the 4 sinking Cruisers visible in the distance (Other 2 are out of frame)
3 British Destroyers, and 2 PT Boats Hunting for me as I flee the scene of the crime (I took moderate damage from a depth charge near the diesels)
An Oil Tanker catches a Torpedo in it's Fuel Bunker
Canadian Corvette vanishes in a torpedo imapct (A bit overkill, I know)
More unfortunate Canadian Corvettiers (I made that word up)
My Boat passing above that same unfortunate Corvette
A Merchant Catching a Torpedo that "Missed" According to my Weapons Officer
Since we weren't at War with America yet, I decided to have some fun by shooting Flares at an American Cargo ship (Probably an Act of War, but what the hell)
1 Shot, 1 Kill. Torpedo Impact breaks the back of this Tanker as it detonates the Fuel Stores.
An Awesome game!
