Wellll simple enough question... I'm thinking of buying a 360 in the future, and was just wondering about XBOX live...

I thought about buying the wireless bridge thing, but its like 50 quid, so maybe not

Using the LAN wire that comes with it, would I-

a) HAVE to connect it to a router to connect to the internet (a hassle)

or

b) be able to simply plug it in the LAN port on the back of my Pc? Not sure if that would work..

Thanks

i'd put money on (a). unless your computer can handle acting like a router, then in that case you could do either. i'm personally going to plug my ps3 right to my router and run with it. more power to you if you can do it through your comp.

Not sure but the router made for the 360 is worth it.  Just plug it in and right out of the box it works.

Its worth it for the money.

You have 2 options to connect to Xbox Live
1) use a hard line and connect to your router from the 360
2)use the wireless network adapter that Microsoft sells (i have it and have no problems)

IMHO Xbox live gives you a better experience then any other online gaming outlet.

I guess a bit expensive, but it works like a charm.

You could plug it into a LAN port on your PC and then create a network bridge linking that network connection to your internet connection. You'd need your PC on whenever you wanted to go online on your Xbox though and that wouldn't be great. You'd also have to do a lot of fairly awkward configuration, which can be very frustrating.

Instead of creating a separate thread I though I would add a question to this one as it's about the same subject.

I'm also considering getting an xbox 360 but am confused with all the different options gold/premium etc. Basically is xbox 360 live free? If not how much per month if i want to download patches and play games on line?

Am getting a bit lost trying to work out.

Xbox Live Silver is free to anyone with a 360, this allows you to browse the marketplace and download demo's, patches, updates, new game content, etc. If you wish to play online multiplayer games then you will need to purchase an Xbox Live Gold account, which looks to cost around $50 for a year.

Cheers for the quick reply.  Seems a reasonable price for a full year I was worried it was going to be monthly charges.

I've got that. It was worth the money. The 360 even has slots that it can latch onto. It's really useful and I experienced little to no connection problems.

I already tried it with the XBox plugged into the LAN port on the back of the PC and then use that through my wireless card.  It didn't work.

It's only 5 bucks a month and it does it from the credit card without telling you.  Of course, 50$ a year is a better and more steady deal.

you can also plug the 360 directly into your cable/dsl modem...
