Today, I completed my 50 hours with EU and got the service medal. I only started (again) because some clanmates decided to give the booster a(nother) try and go for the medal. My first impressions of EF (equalling about 50 hours total but just about 27 with the EU forces) weren't too positive and so I simply decided to abandon it soon after it had been released.

Well, as if it wasn't enough of a bad sign that there's just a few EF servers left, I did not see either of them full ("as in filled to capacity") in the past week, except for a european 20 player IO Great Wall, which, despite of retarded power-hungry nerds as admins, was still the most enjoyable EF experience I look back to, after having played the booster for about 75 hours.

It took me a while to understand the greatness of the Special Forces expansion pack, which I had also already abandoned after playing it for a few dozen hours. In fact, I realised that after a long break from SF and on return playing with a very skilled infantry player and squadleader (yes, the talk is about Nasty_Butler).

Either way, EF is far from being great. It's boring. The maps may have a certain appealing flair around them, but gameplay-wise, they just combine the worst aspects of Operation Clean Sweep and Zatar Wetlands - which basically drive the BF2 foodchain to the extreme: jets & bombers >>>> helos >>> armor >> grunt > sand. You may score a lot as a grunt, if you manage to make your way past all those who come before you in the foodchain and manage to cap a few flags, but you're more likely to just be cannon fodder.

I used to like Great Wall when I first played EF, and I still think it has a lot of potential, especiall in IO mode. However, some of the shit I had to endure due to the lack of servers spoiled the fun for me and I doubt I'll be playing that map online again.

To cut a long story short, I got my medal and after having spent about 75 hours online and another 25 in LANs and single player, the feeling of wasted ~10 bucks is gone. Would I buy the expansion again? Rather not. Would I recommend buying it? Only if you're willing to tk your way to the jets if necessary.

I enjoy Zatar Wetlands and am starting to like Clean Sweep a bit more now too.
I also think EF is brilliant. It's far from boring, its actually great fun. The only annoying part is everyones consistent EU teamswitching.

EF is vehicle heavy, if you are an infantry player then stay clear of it. Just like all the other big maps in the game offer the same sort of game, such as Dalian, Daqing, FuShe, DV, etc etc. Same with AF.

Great Wall on IO sucks due to the massive distances to travel. Its not worth it. On 16player, its not a problem. But on the 32 its ridiculous and the tanks (on a full 64man server) just get trapped outside due to constant AT mines being laid at the entrances. Leaving the Infantry to have a massive battle on the internal walls between the 2 inner flags.

Smoke Screen is the best map in the game if you want armour/heli/jet battles - theres lots of em to go around. It is not supposed to be an Infantry map and never has been.
Judging by your stats, you're an Infantry player so Id expect you to think that way.

Play any of the maps on a full 32+ size server and they are far from boring. I remember the days on Jolt 24/7 Smoke where it would be a constant 32v32. Those were brilliant battles. 14 tanks going up against each other with 4 jets and 4 helis to have a pop at em, with AA to spice it up. Brilliant stuff.
Same with Great Wall. I remember getting my EU medal off of a 137 BRS as EU on a full 64 Great Wall game. That was mad fun.

The worst map is Taraba, but that is far from being the worst map in the game. Although I tend to agree with Bot who always says that Jets ruined it but they are meant to aid in ending the bridge stalemate and theres 2 mobile AA per team to deal with em anyway.
Once again, its a big map not intended for infantry battles. If you are on foot, then AT rockets, AT mines or jihad jeeping is fun to do. There is no use being a medic on these maps.

For £5, EF is an absolute bargain. But if you like your precious IO mode and frown upon vehicles, then stay clear of it.

You got that last part wrong. It's sand > grunt. Sand can kill grunts if they fall on it. Nothing can kill sand.

...in fact, it should be sand >>>> jets & bombers >>> helos >> armor > grunt.

Interesting. Me? I'm quite fond of the EU, and me liking EF is just me, nothing really than stands out about EF that would make others really like it sadly. It's just a personally preference. I can totally understand why you don't like it, and I like the fact that you're probably the first person I've seen explain why so intelligently. So, kudos to you.

This I can't help but agree with you 100%. It just sucks on the ground on Taraba and on Smoke Screen. It's not so fun in the air in Smoke, but still.

I think it will be a lesson learned though that Dice should not release a new army in a booster. EF was rushed, and when Dice had a chance to fix a few major issues with some of the vehicles, they didn't. AF, on the other hand, is a lot more fun because the map designs are better. Road Rage is boring on the ground, but its fun in the attack jets. The Mobile AA is pretty annoying though. Over all though, I enjoy it.

It wasn't very fun though being stuck on the other team while TOP team stacked on the EU. You guys are pretty good though.

I actually like Dalian, Daqing and Fushe. I don't really know why, but those maps never annoyed me as much as those from AF & EF do.

It's part of the fun. You never know where the enemy might show up. I personally think it helps to improve battlefield awareness.

I mostly have negative experience with Smoke Screen due to the teamstacking. Players tend to join one team and stay on that, be it either all on EU as of lately or all swapping sides as in the beginning. It'll end up with one team being driven back to their uncap. While I do firmly believe that any team that gets driven back to their uncap deserves getting baseraped, I nevertheless think it is boring usually. I also noticed due to general improvement of my infantry play in SF, I actually make a better stand on this map, too.

I remember playing the Jolt server(s?) you mentioned and indeed, games were a lot more lively than now, but from my (limited) experience, that's mostly been the case when teams weren't totally unbalanced, too. What bothered me back then and still bothers me now is people who get in armor without appropriate kits (engineer to repair each other or AT to finish enemy armor off) and the lack of strategic thinking. An example: you have 4 tanks departing from your uncap and they all head for the same base. They all stay close together because everyone wants the precious capture (assist) and they all end up getting bombed away. The alternative is: you're on the road in an armored column, you're the only engineer and your group encounters an enemy group. While you're the only one who could actually repair, the other tanks push you in front to take the first few enemy rounds - boom. Or, as witnessed today, 2 guys driving to a flag (Windfarm) in one tank and capping it. Then, both abandoned the tank, both got in one AA vehicle and drove away - or wanted, because a few meters away from that flag, they got torn apart by two enemy tanks.
I guess my tolerance level for idiocy and noobism isn't high enough to stand events like that for a longer period.

I'm having trouble thinking about a worse one tbh, except for the clay&nadewhoring maps probably.
Even the foggy Songhua can be fun with a good squad.

Completely agreed and thinking of a few rounds of Smoke Screen I played today, I have to admit the map is indeed not that bad, it's the idiocy of players that bothered me.
Either way, my general impression is still that I lack really good, persuading, entertaining, memorable moments in this booster pack. There's just not much that makes me want to go back there and play.

Jihad Jeeping is a fun tactic that can get you kicked and banned from many of those servers that remained though. It's not worth it.
