BF2S Forums I am Building a new PC... Any tips?

What are the specs of your current PC?

Here are some suggestions:

Decent processor (A64...3000-3500 range)
AMD64 3200+ @ $170

Mobo w/ upgrade capability (PCI-E, SLi, etc)
SOLTEK SL-K890 Pro @ $100

good gfx card
eVGA GeForce 6800GS @ $200

1 or 2 gigs of RAM (the more the better)
Corsair 1Gb @ $75
or
Corsair 2Gb @ $180

at least a SATA HDD, a RAID if you feel up to it
WD Caviar SE x 2 @ $55 x 2 = $110

decent soundcard/speakers (Logitech X-530 are awesome! and only $50...Audigy2 cards are inexpensive too)
Logitech X530 @ $50
Audigy 2 Value @ $50

disk drives aren't that crucial...you probably have one already
monitor will set you back, but get a decent LCD one if you want to

Remember, to get a really l33t rig going, you have to buy things a piece at a time to keep yourself within a budget

Yet the OP wants to spend less then 1000...lol

To be honest [CANADA]_Zenmaster and beeng this system is costing me about €1,800.00 not 5K.

If i had 5K for a system I would buy......  a "Alienware system" or buy one of the machines @ the office (My I.T guy is a lil crazy when it comes to building computers). as far as I can remember his machine would blow most if not all sytems outta the water

1,800.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds  = 3,187.29 USD United States Dollars so the $5K estimate is fair once you factor in taxes and other extras you will need to add.

My PC isn't any good... It is a Dell Dimension 5000. It has pentium 4 3.00 ghz an 512 mb RAM. I don't know the rest... Thanks for the tips btw.

Thanks everyone... I am also wondering about a router for the internet. What should i choose for gaming? My computer will be one floor up, about 10 m from the router.

Your advise is good but it has 2 problems first the guy have 1000 bucks second 4gb ram in single module is good but better is 2 modules of 2 gb to take profit of dual channeling technology, supported in the asus mother, anyway I would go with the Intel P4 3,2 ghz and the Nvidia 6800.

I concur with fikrag7, with a few comments.
1. If you can afford it, go with 2GB of RAM.  From what I hear, it makes a big difference in BF2 especially in loading
2. If you use a headset (which I recommend for playing FPS games), you can go with a USB headset like the Plantronics DSP500.  You can get one for ~$50 (or less), and you don't have to buy a soundcard or speakers.  I use one of these and the sound is awesome!  I have the audio set on High and have no problems.  It has spatial sound, so you can hear what direction someone is firing, walking, etc.
3. I don't know about the Soltek board.  I've never heard of the brand...  You might want to go with Abit, ASUS or DFI instead.  Read the reviews of the various Mobos.

5. Since a decent LCD is gonna probably put you over your budget, if you need a new monitor I'd get a 19" CRT.  You can get one for $200 or less.  I don't know which would be the best.  Read the reviews...

You cannot use Crossfire on a SLI motherboard. Also, there is no 40GB IDE 10,000rpm drive.

yeah, so exaclty how DO you plan to run Cross-Fire on an SLI board when CrossFire requires a CrossFire compatible motherboard? You just wasted a bunch of money! ROFLMAO!
