I am going to build a new PC. Any tips on what parts i should use? I do not want to use over like 1 000 bucks...
What are the specs of your current PC?
a64s are cheap.Jenspm wrote:

and don't go all out ona video card, buy last generation's video card to savecash. Decent performance but it doesn't cost 800 bucks.
Here are some suggestions:
Decent processor (A64...3000-3500 range)
AMD64 3200+ @ $170
Mobo w/ upgrade capability (PCI-E, SLi, etc)
SOLTEK SL-K890 Pro @ $100
good gfx card
eVGA GeForce 6800GS @ $200
1 or 2 gigs of RAM (the more the better)
Corsair 1Gb @ $75
or
Corsair 2Gb @ $180
at least a SATA HDD, a RAID if you feel up to it
WD Caviar SE x 2 @ $55 x 2 = $110
decent soundcard/speakers (Logitech X-530 are awesome! and only $50...Audigy2 cards are inexpensive too)
Logitech X530 @ $50
Audigy 2 Value @ $50
disk drives aren't that crucial...you probably have one already
monitor will set you back, but get a decent LCD one if you want to
Remember, to get a really l33t rig going, you have to buy things a piece at a time to keep yourself within a budget

To be honest [CANADA]_Zenmaster and beeng this system is costing me about €1,800.00 not 5K.
If i had 5K for a system I would buy...... a "Alienware system" or buy one of the machines @ the office (My I.T guy is a lil crazy when it comes to building computers). as far as I can remember his machine would blow most if not all sytems outta the water

all that and then u put in a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM?!!tj-dublin83 wrote:

1,800.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 3,187.29 USD United States Dollars so the $5K estimate is fair once you factor in taxes and other extras you will need to add.tj-dublin83 wrote:

The best deal around is on newegg
AMD 64 754pin 3700 Clawhammer (2.4) $205 + this comes with a free nforce 3 mobo by biostar
2gb geil pc3200DDR400 3.8.4.4 $180
X800XT $350 or atlest 6600GT $150
SATA150 drives 7200RPM 8mg cash for 2 x 80gb $103
You cant beat this bang per buck
I run everything with the x800xt everything is on highest setting @1024x768@32 and im always the first in any server, helps in going for vehicals, helos, planes etc

Hay Jenspm,
The best advice I think that any1 can give you is 1) look 4 Grafix cards that Use gddr3
2) Shop around online for PC parts
3) check http://www.tomshardware.com [Reviewed Hardware]
That's generally what I do, at the start of building.
fikraag7 has some great prices for stuff, by the way fikraag7 where are the prices based on??

You cannot use Crossfire on a SLI motherboard. Also, there is no 40GB IDE 10,000rpm drive.

Your advise is good but it has 2 problems first the guy have 1000 bucks second 4gb ram in single module is good but better is 2 modules of 2 gb to take profit of dual channeling technology, supported in the asus mother, anyway I would go with the Intel P4 3,2 ghz and the Nvidia 6800.tj-dublin83 wrote:

Does the $1000 dollars include mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers? Or are you just buy the tower at the moment. I have built several machines in the past few months at that price range. Let me know what all you are wanting and I can price some stuff for you.
A couple things I would recommend are: go with a socket 939 not a 754 & do not get cheap and skimpy on the motherboard.

This is the best for any kind of computer stuff you'll ever need
I concur with fikrag7, with a few comments.
1. If you can afford it, go with 2GB of RAM. From what I hear, it makes a big difference in BF2 especially in loading
2. If you use a headset (which I recommend for playing FPS games), you can go with a USB headset like the Plantronics DSP500. You can get one for ~$50 (or less), and you don't have to buy a soundcard or speakers. I use one of these and the sound is awesome! I have the audio set on High and have no problems. It has spatial sound, so you can hear what direction someone is firing, walking, etc.
3. I don't know about the Soltek board. I've never heard of the brand... You might want to go with Abit, ASUS or DFI instead. Read the reviews of the various Mobos.
4. Leadtek also makes good video cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814122235
5. Since a decent LCD is gonna probably put you over your budget, if you need a new monitor I'd get a 19" CRT. You can get one for $200 or less. I don't know which would be the best. Read the reviews...

I have a Dell Dimension, but i have souped it up a little.
WD Raptor 74Gig 10,000 RPM harddrive = 180
i had 512megs of ram and now added a gig
so i have 1.5 gigs of ram = 150$
i have a radeon X300 128mb grafix card= Price unknown.
but i have to say the internet takes the cake..
adelphia cable for 50$ a month and i am the first or second guy in the game
its all good, i bought a piece of shit dell, spent around 300 bucks and its L33T.
EDIT: HaHa this is funny, the first HD i had was a Maxtor 80GB..
playing BF2 for 15 hours straight i melted the core of it and it broke, haha.
i need a new case and some case fans.
Anyone know about mounting the Motherboard and a good case to get.
Case fans are also needed.

yeah, so exaclty how DO you plan to run Cross-Fire on an SLI board when CrossFire requires a CrossFire compatible motherboard? You just wasted a bunch of money! ROFLMAO!psychotoxic187 wrote:

Jenspm,
If you can answer a few questions for me I can hopefully have a list of suggested parts and price put together by tommorrow evening.
1. About how experienced with building/maintaining PCs are you?
2. I know this will be used for BF2, what else will it be used for? (are you going to be storing lots of music, writing papers with it, etc...)
3. What is your maximum budget?
4. What sort of look/style would you like?
Let me know of any other questions/concerns/comments you may have. Feel free to pm me. I am willing to help you as much as is possible.
