I went to SUNY Maritime College in NYC whose focus is on sending its cadets out to sea as 3rd Mates or 3rd Assistant Engineers on commercial ships. Most of the engineers are Marine Engineers and make damn good operating engineers in power and HVAC plants. I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.Nyte wrote:

I'm not sure how employers would even checks marks overseas (they would need to know the relative scoring within that region). But yeah, I worked at ATI Inc. for my PEY internship and simply went back to ATI (now AMD) after I finished school in May 2007.
And I've been here ever since. Been wanting to get out of it to another company (Qualcomm) but working here for 5.5 years, I have quite a few incentives that prevent me from leaving.

yeah making the most money is the true estimation of worth. my career-path pays very well, and comes with intellectual contentment and self-fulfillment. i do what i love, most of all, so the money is completely secondary.Nyte wrote:

we don't even have liberal arts in the UK. it's humanities or nothing. we don't have 'liberal arts' colleges. but sociology is not a liberal art. liberal arts are based on classical/humanist educations. some parts may involve reading in sociological theory, but it always comes back to the 'arts' and philosophy-type basis. sociology as an actual college discipline involves all sorts of empiricist testing and research, and is truly outside the remit of a liberal arts education. it's a social science, and it comes with all the methods of data collection and testing that you'd associate with it. liberal arts majors don't carry around clipboards.Cybargs wrote:

it's a pussy ass reply to say one prefers to work for intellectual contentment instead of the size of your wallet? don't be so asian. we aren't all so status insecure that we feel pressured by family to make as much money as possible. i'm going into the career-path maybe your grandchildren will be able to entertain, once they escape the terror of being recent immigrants with no footing on the social ladder. please though, tell me some more.
We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the forum members are pussies. And Uzique the Lesser is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

I'm intellectually content AND I make money. So be it if you only choose one instead of both.
But don't expect me to shut up when you attempt to get a rise out of me. Because all you will get is me bringing you down and getting a rise out of you instead of getting any rise out of me.
If my children want to become HR or whatever BS you do, I'm fine with that. But I can only speak for myself that I prefer to have everything instead of one or the other because of whatever BS liberal/moral/social reasons you can think of.

There's EngSci, TrackOne, then the core 8 programs in descending difficulty. I switched out of engineering into pure physics in Arts&Science departmentNyte wrote:

I may have missed 1 or 2, dunno. I'm guessing Physics Engineering was ripped out of one of the EngSci options. What is that program about?
lol you clearly don't know anything about me, but then you yap on and on about "incorrect arguments". you're a strange guy.
how much money is enough money for you? at what point do you make enough to be satisfied? $150k isn't enough?

actually you guys both need to stop. It really is starting to pollute the forums. I don't want to send you guys to timeout but I probably will end up doing it because even though I'm warning you to stop I really don't expect that to happen. But please stop.Nyte wrote:

all north american asian people on this forum do show an incredible concern about material wealth and display. am i wrong in saying that's part of the immigrant experience/culture? the rabid need to claw your way to middle-class respectability within the society you are trying to integrate? all of the asian students i see over here are clearly examples of that same mentality: shipped abroad because they have to catch-up. i have no idea how someone can be cocky about the fact they are so shallow and money-obsessed.

on the topic from a while ago of big schools not having their best teach undergrads: http://www.news.utoronto.ca/scientists- … -real-time
I've had the lead professor teach me in a class of 50-60, the lead PhD student Ray be my TA for 2 classes of 20 and the other PhD student as my TA for a lab course of about 15.
