If the PA prevents just one terrorist attack...its all worth it...

Its alot of responsibility and has alot of room to turn south real quick.  We'll see how it is in a few month or a year..

Johnny, this has nothing to do with the patriot act. They've been targeting Child molesters on the net for a long time now. They just don't approch them I think, also I was so on top of this article 7 hours ago.

Then the freedoms that it's protecting isn't really there?

I'll post the actual Patriot Act here for all to read through or pick points out of before discussing it:

You're asking people on these forums to read through all of that? Might as well assign 'Love and War.'

Don't try to read it.

One of the reasons why the Patriot ac t is such a POS.

Have you ever heard of obfuscation?  Here's a program to output the 12 days of Christmas in C:

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
main(t,_,a)char *a;{return!0<t?t<3?main(-79,-13,a+main(-87,1-_,
main(-86,0,a+1)+a)):1,t<_?main(t+1,_,a):3,main(-94,-27+t,a)&&t==2?_<13?
main(2,_+1,"%s %d %d\n"):9:16:t<0?t<-72?main(_,t,
"@n'+,#'/*{}w+/w#cdnr/+,{}r/*de}+,/*{*+,/w{%+,/w#q#n+,/#{l,+,/n{n+,/+#n+,/#\
;#q#n+,/+k#;*+,/'r :'d*'3,}{w+K w'K:'+}e#';dq#'l \
q#'+d'K#!/+k#;q#'r}eKK#}w'r}eKK{nl]'/#;#q#n'){)#}w'){){nl]'/+#n';d}rw' i;# \
){nl]!/n{n#'; r{#w'r nc{nl]'/#{l,+'K {rw' iK{;[{nl]'/w#q#n'wk nw' \
iwk{KK{nl]!/w{%'l##w#' i; :{nl]'/*{q#'ld;r'}{nlwb!/*de}'c \
;;{nl'-{}rw]'/+,}##'*}#nc,',#nw]'/+kd'+e}+;#'rdq#w! nr'/ ') }+}{rl#'{n' ')# \
}'+}##(!!/")
:t<-50?_==*a?putchar(31[a]):main(-65,_,a+1):main((*a=='/')+t,_,a+1)
  :0<t?main(2,2,"%s"):*a=='/'||main(0,main(-61,*a,
"!ek;dc i@bK'(q)-[w]*%n+r3#l,{}:\nuwloca-O;m .vpbks,fxntdCeghiry"),a+1);}
YES THAT IS VALID CODE.  I got it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obfuscated_code

Now, here's a section of the patriot act:

(a) AMENDMENT OF THE IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY ACT- Section 105 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1105) is amended--

(1) in the section heading, by inserting `; DATA EXCHANGE' after `SECURITY OFFICERS';

    (2) by inserting `(a)' after `SEC. 105.';

    (3) in subsection (a), by inserting `and border' after `internal' the second place it appears;
If they had just summarised what the amended version said after each section of weird obfuscation, then maybe you would have a chance in hell, but it would take years for a normal person to work through the whole thing.  In my opinion.

Exactly...which is probably why it passed.  Nobody read it, they just passed it on a knee-jerk reaction to the thoughts of direct retaliation and fear.  Now that we've seen it go bad, especially with the infringement of rights, etc., legislators are finally looking into it and realizing what a huge mass of garbage it really is.

Yeah, anyone can decide an existing document doesn't fit in with their view of things and make crazy amendments so confusing it takes a long time to figure out the new intention.

BF2S Patriot Act wrote:

Modification to the stated opinions of posting regarding topic BF2S.#20088.

    In the post marked #3 the following amendments are requested to better reflect the needs of this thread to provide criticism to the act refered to within the post by the acronym PA.  Henceforth it shall modified thusly:

    1.  By inserting 'Do you believe ' before the word it's.

    2.  By striking the second line.

    5.  At the end of the end of the amended paragraph, inserting the phrase "No, it will persist beyond the scope it was intended for."

    3.  By striking the word 'If' and replacing with 'In the unlikely event that'.

    4.  Replacing the second occurance of '...' with "? ".

That's very good.

And true too.

According to 1984, we just need a war in a far off land that never ends against an indeterminate and changing foe, and numerous government orchestrated bombings blamed on terrorists to make sure that no-one ever questions the danger they are in....

Off the subject, I think it is hypocritical (sp) that the Bush admin, would choose to use nuclear weapons in order to stop the spread of them.

Disagreed 1000000%.  If the US PATRIOT Act violates one tiny freedom, it's not worth it at all.
