Because the bar is terrible for your shoulders especially on incline and doesn't work the stabilizer muscles like dumbbells do, the only time i use the bar is to see what my max is. Like Sonderkommando said though it sucks that most gyms only have dumbells up to 120lbs. I currently use 105s for sets. Thank you for calling me an idiot too that was completely necessary.....

So i've been going to the gym for a couple of months just for general fitness and to relieve boredom, (allowing for a break in the middle when i was ill and my membership ran out), started going more often recently and i'm pretty sure I've put on about 8Lbs in the last month of so.

Might be slight differences in weighing scales, because i've used different sets, but i'm still pretty impressed.

muscle weighs more than fat, if you didn't know already. what do you mainly focus on when you go to the gym?

The point is, I wasn't fat at all to start with and can generally eat what i want, so I sort of worked out what the weight gain was

I generally do about 20mins of cardio to get warm and motivated (gym's heating is shot..) then just go round having a go on all the machines, till I lose interest (back, chest and shoulders and arms most days, legs when i can be bothered).
Have a friend who basically just does weights, so he's been showing me some free weight exercises this week.

Ok cool, just saying cos with a little bit more enthusiasm you can get some impressive results. It's good that you don't need the motivation, as you're already there it would be a good idea to progress on what you're already doing.
