I like, and exclusively use, my Steam Controller.
Both pads are touch sensitive but the important difference is it's endlessly customizable. Turn either pad into any sort of configuration you like: touch circular-menu, touch regional-menu, stick-like movement, camera control, etc. Add in the double-layer effect of having a completely different set of options (if another button was held or recently pressed, or you were in an in-game menu, flying vs racing, etc.) and you've got roughly 30 trillion different permutations of options.
Most people didn't like all the customization though, they just used it as its default. Then Steam turned on similar customizations for xbox and ps controllers and it pretty much died off.
