it doesnt happen all the time. i think the last time i had this problem was maybe 2 motnhs ago. also i had been playing for a good 15min before this happened.

isnt it something to do with ur comp overheating? some guy posted a thread like this, and the same happend to him, overheating turned out to be the prob

i dont think thats the problem. this is onlt the 2nd or 3rd time its happened and my temps are always very constant.

Got terrain detail on low? Mine does that on low but not on medium or high.
Its a video card problem. I had a problem where my gpu fan was so corroded with dust that it wouldnt spin thus overheating the vid card. After cleaning my gpu fan i have none of those funny looking black boxes.

I've seen this problem as well. I think it's just a glitch. Generally, you can just drive over it, and it will turn the normal color. It's weird.

Yeh or your GPU might not be gettin enough power from your PSU and its workin at half-ass you did say settings were on high

Try lowering your dynamic shadows to medium and see what happens.
It could be the begining of the end of your video card. It may take several months or years...
