Little sister's 1 year old kitten has leukemia. Has to be put down. She is a mess. I feel bad.
The cat came from a shelter. It looked healthy but maybe being a shelter cat is fundamentally bad for their health? Anyway, I promised to buy her a new car from a breeder when she is ready. Probably not the thing she wanted to hear but I made it clear that when she is ready, I will get her a new cat.

FeLV is a nasty piece of work, very contagious. Another reason to keep your cats inside (or have catios) and out of reach of unknown strays.
Shelter kitties are fine. You can run tests for viruses (best to quarantine a new cat at the vet during this before unleashing it on other animals in your household). There are more cats out there than people have homes for. Don't support breeders.

iirc FeLV doesn't survive long on surfaces, but perhaps best to throw out any cat object that can't be thoroughly sanitized after that time. Other nasties can linger for longer (parvo), and are resistant to household cleaners (again, parvo).
Thanks for the knowledge, Cat Man. I will tell her to throw away the stuff except for maybe a collar memento. Give her an early birthday gift and splurge on new stuff for her too when I get her a cat from a breeder. I don't trust shelter animals. They gave her a defective cat. It was an indoor cat.
A shelter that I guess doesn't test animals? Do they even quarantine, bro? Maybe avoid that particular one. Pretty high accuracy these days for feline leukemia testing, I believe.
You don't know a lot about breeders if you think it's like getting a brand new car from an official dealer or whatever. Breeders create a lot of problem animals, inbred and even more prone to disease than a shelter moggy. Some keep their animals in worse conditions than a shelter.

Mac how would you respond to an email like this from one of your students?
I would forward the email to their case manager on the Child Study Team.
Youtube recommendation bar fired a question at me. Was I satisfied with recommendations? To paraphrase, "no" and "leave history off." Left history off. "OK we won't ask you about it again." I'm pretty sure they've asked me at least twice now, but it's low level nagging from such a large corporation.
Completely aced a battery of self-service online eye exams, not that it means much. I'd still like to go in after years of not having things checked out. Years of like a meter between me and my computer screen may have helped.
I can still rattle off a row of DVD covers on a bookshelf across the room, or read with my nose literally in a book, but there is some barely noticeable fuzz sometimes or that I might be subconsciously processing through. Also, night driving without night-driving glasses is starting to suck.
I find myself using high contrast black in Windows a lot in combination with night light mode to reduce all the black text on white background strain.

Well thats weird, a nazi artefact fell out of the sky and landed on the lawn.
Seems to be a piece of leather painted gold.
Maybe a flying nazi zombie exploded, or its the end of the world.

it's clearly indian in origin.
this is the symbol of ganesha, commonly used on diwali and at weddings.
the hakenkreuz seldom appears in that stylised form. unsurprisingly, nazi symbolism was every bit as much of a syncretic hodgepodge of nonsense and cribbed mystical hoodoo as their 'race science'.
you see similar designs all over korea, associated with traditional forms of korean (seon) buddhism.

Aha, its diwali now.
Fairly disappointed its not nazi in origin.

naturally, you're unhappy that there's indians in your bungalow suburb. what's a high net worth individual doing sharing environs with taxi drivers and student loans shirkers?
Only one indian in the street, a university lecturer, and he's trying to rob the brain-damaged guy two doors away of his house.
Fuck Israel
Now you have one in charge of the U.K. I hope he swindles the king out of throne.
he doesn't need the throne. he's worth 2x the net worth of king charles already. richest parliamentarian by quite a margin, richest parliamentarian possibly ever.
and don't worry, he'll be out in 1–2 years and moving to america to claim american citizenship with his green card. that has always been his end-game, a plum board position somewhere on wall street making maximal money. he's already spent long stretches of his life in santa monica and at stanford business school.

politics just seem to be a funsies job for him.uziq wrote:

Apparently all my Australian medical treatment records got hacked.
Lucky there's nothing embarrassing, a few fillings and a few scans, thats it.
Identity theft is the bigger issue TBH, what fucking incompetence.

it's the usual 'cabinet or PM -> board member sinecure' pipeline.Cybargs wrote:

a lot of these modern banker-cum-politician technocratic types have this very ambition. do a few years as a chancellor or deputy PM and become a senior wall street or silicon valley figure. sunak's whole life in california would certainly suggest that he has a nick clegg path in mind: a few years in downing street, followed by a global lead role at facebook and 7 figure yearly salary.
now he's made the very top job, he can probably do one better and get on the lecturing and public circuit. 6 or 7 figures per engagement. he can spend the next 20 years of his (young) life telling roomfuls of management consultants and bankers exactly what they want to hear, from menlo park to martha's vineyard.
huh? that was uziqueCybargs wrote:
i never understood why those who hate government want to even get into it. i still find it funny dauntless didnt like rishi cos he was 'too indian', never mind the other baggage.
rishi was always my bottom choice. banter aside, the guy is almost a pantomime villain-type to be meting out more austerity. one of the richest men in the country, who has done everything possible to evade tax and keep his eye on US citizenship, telling working people they've got to tighten their belts.
How can I fake my own death to get out of a relationship? Like a memorial webpage I might need.
