Wanting Americans living in tent cities behind Home Depots to be able to afford a places to live, health care, food security, etc. doesn't necessarily mean you don't want anyone else in the world to enjoy similar prosperity. As long as we're clear.

left-wing critique takes ‘global capitalism’ as its broad subject. i’m not espousing it. but left-wing activism obviously recognises that exploitation doesn’t stop at their borders; in fact, most working-class exploitation has been conveniently
exported, out of sight and out of mind. this was one of the master strokes of the liberal ‘good years’. now rust belt americans are facing poor conditions, they realise the long con.

sorry but nobody in any analytical framework thinks tony blair is 'left-wing'. NEW labour were titled thus to consciously reposition them AWAY from the 'unelectable' left-wing. new labour were a centrist reinvention. they even frequently used the term 'third way' ffs. they have as much relation to 'labour' as your favourite subject, the nazis, had to 'socialism'.

you strike me as being as equally hapless as jay when it comes to this stuff. come on, this isn't difficult. tony blair was not a socialist, lmfao.

Well he told people he was a socialist and they swallowed it, he joined the Labour party in 1975 ffs.

Is Keir Starmer 'left wing'?

no, keir starmer and his leadership have consciously repositioned labour as a centrist party again. corbyn's platform was left-wing.

say what you want about the electability of starmer vs. corbyn, the labels matter. tony blair was not left-wing. the entire new labour project was hatched, conceived, branded and understood as a centrist party.

these terms have basic meanings. best to stick them eh chap.

oh look, blair is in the news this week, it turns out.

'Tony Blair plans centrist conference to buck up Britain’s ideas'.

oh. why would a committed socialist do this?!?

OK, so Britain doesn't have a socialist party and 'left-wing critiques' matter to no-one.

you must have missed the ructions and back-and-forth within the PLP and labour over the last 5 years. there's kind of been a power struggle for the 'heart and soul' of the party, between the new labour-era centrist hangers on in the organisation (like the ever-present mandelson) and the new energized base (as in corbyn-backing momentum, the largest political organisation of its type in western europe). to say that 'left-wing' thought is an irrelevance is a bit of a dumb gloss on it. you can be forgiven for not paying attention though -- evidently you last paid any real attention to british life sometime aroundabout 1998.

i also never said it was massively popular. i said 'the sort of leftist' (as in relating to the meme picture, of a guy with an anarchist symbol tattoo on his neck, duhhh) would espouse a worldview that was broadly internationalist. because that's what left-wing theory is about. do keep up, precious child.

I didn't miss that, it wasn't left vs right at all, the jews didn't want Corbyn and now the jews run the labour party.

i seriously wonder if your parents didn't give you enough attention as a child.

keir's team have quite consciously purged the party of corbynite associations, i.e. anything explicitly and avowedly left wing. that's been the entire point of their hum'ing and haw'ing over such issues as brexit and the pandemic. they want to find a centre ground close to the tories again but yet which isn't covered by the lib dems/greens. a fairly hopeless exercise in 2022.

to post a picture of tony blair and say 'here's your leftist' is just so fucking funny. go to school and get a humanities degree.

They've also purged all the people who held a balanced view of Israel-Palestine no?

That was exactly my point, Blair was a supposed lifelong socialist but they rarely are that.

no, your point seemed to infer that left-wing people are hypocrites or evil or not really interested in 'the workers of the world' or whatever.

if you had an actual grasp of this, you wouldn't protest that 'he joined the labour party in 75' and then ask me 'is keir left wing'?

new labour was part of a wave of 'third way' politics. neoliberalism with a social conscience. they are pretty much responsible in the 90s and 00s for hypercharging the process i was talking about, of exporting manufacturing jobs and undermining labour bases at home for a quick buck. you are totally illiterate.

OK so 'the left' in the UK barely exists, no-one is interested in it, why would anyone care about 'left-wing critiques'?

My point really is that so many people who present themselves as 'left-wing socialists' typically are anything but.

They should certainly try working harder and complain less.

Trickledown economics will deliver eventually, in the meantime they need to shut up.

there are plenty of genuine left-wing parties pursuing left-wing politics. it's certainly not the majority or any sort of mainstream, but it's a big old world and labour struggles are still relevant to many people.

sorry that you got duped by 'new labour's branding in the 1990s and seemed to think they were leading a socialist government. you seem very confused.

the more delicious detail, here, is that so many conservative heartlands swung to independent because ... wait for it ... there was no acknowledgment or credible plan around australia's greenhouse emissions from the morrison government.

dilbert has been coming here for years and making out that australia is a green paradise. why would there be a historic swing to independents on the issue of climate change, if that was so?

South Australia is a green paradise, the rest are burning coal like crazy.

Apparnetly all those independent voters are racist and hate the gays.

“I’m hoping they’re happy with their work,” Mr Joyce told The Australian Financial Review on Sunday. “They’ve managed to get rid of three gay guys, one Aboriginal and one Asian. Was that their game plan?”
