How long are the meetings? Can you group students into functional units and deliver the same comments during multiple independent meetings? Is faking your own death and moving to a quiet island village an option?

We need answers.

Some fairly vanilla options from various tech chats and AV articles.

0.$ - AUSDOM 1080P HD Webcam ($45 @ amazon)
$ - Logitech C920S ($70 @ logitech)
$.5 - Logitech C930E ($120 @ walmart; wider field of view?)
$$ - GoPro Hero 8 ($350 @ amazon)
$$$ - Insta360 One R ($430+ by feature; easy setup firmware-as-webcam feature)

I know GoPro made a bit of a splash as a zoom cam last year.

Anyway, I'd look for color correction, reliable frames, and a decent sounding mic if you don't already have one (make sure you have that set up correctly and the way you like before going into a meeting). Also look for where you want to mount it and make sure it's able.
I went with the logitech 920. I mean "Logi" since changing the name of your famous brand is very smart. I trust that brand and can't think of any instances where it let me down.

I just got the mechanical keyboard I ordered at the same time. I got the extra loud option.

I dunno about the rebrand to logi. Too close to loogie. It would make more sense to just keep their logo and eliminate the name on a product. If they're not proud enough of it to do that, there's a problem.

There is probably some marketing rule about not having the word 'tech' in your name if you are a tech manufacturer. I remember for a time they went full "logi" but now seem to use their full name on a lot of boxes, labels, etc. Logitech has/had a good reputation. It's a shame some marketing people convinced them to rebrand.

So I've been living for a while with my Razer mouse inadvertently double-clicking when I single-click. It actually works out well as a double-tap in FPSs, but is troublesome with general web browsing. I think it's going on 7 years now, so I'm in the market for upgrading all peripherals. I plan on starting looking at what Logitech has to offer as a start.

Suggestions for mice (wired, ideally), keyboards, and headsets (with a mic, but not any shoddy GamerTM gear) appreciated.

Food for thought:

BenQ Zowie has a very solid lineup of plug-and-play mice that are blessedly devoid of the gamer aesthetic. Detailed page:

G600 is a solid MMO mouse if you like lots of input functionality. Strictly a matter of taste for me (if you don't need the inputs, avoid; simple as that). I even have a couple backups in my computer closet I picked up when the thing was on sale. I wish I'd done the same with a few of the older mice I had that I really enjoyed using. Old, and definitely not a cutting-edge FPS mouse (better options even when it was new). Not the one I use day-to-day.

Razer would be much more tempting if not for the software.

I've seen the HyperX headsets recommended a lot, in articles and by internet friends. Mics sounded OK on discord, but I've never heard the speakers for myself. I have a Shure desktop mic and closed beyers for my own usual setup. Hit up uzique for suggestions, that's like his bread and butter hobby.

I use sub-$20 keyboards from places like Office Depot most of the time. Hit up a decent electronics store and test the feel of the ones on display. Could recommend based on specs, but that won't help if you don't like the feel or volume.

Here's a Havit that barely dips its toe into into the "aesthetic." Thin, light, basic layout, Kailh switches. Lights have toggle functions so I assume you can turn them off. May be worth on sale.

Never tried the brand so no grounded recommendation. If the Zowie Celeritas II was actually available (no idea what's going on there) anywhere it would be a cool choice if you got the mouse. Matching (and slightly less obnoxious) logo as a bonus.

K845 for about the same as the sale-Havit, gives you a 10key and your choice of switches (+20 for cherry):

Pretty sure you can also shut off the lights with the logitech software.

Ended up going with Corsair HS60 headphones which arrived today and I got to test out. Still on the cheap side as things can go, but it's a massive improvement over my previous situation. The surround sound is quite a change for me in game and I'm quite keen to hear it while watching a movie. I know it's brand new too, but it is very comfortable to wear, as well, which is nice compared to the shitty headset I use for work calls.

Corsair really showed restraint with their headsets. Even the "gaming" models don't make you look like a Megatron cosplay.

If you're still in the market for a keyboard, here's a resource on the cherry switches, among other details letting you listen to what each one sounds like:

https://www.cherrymx.de/en/mx-original/mx-red.html

About the point I'm spending $70+ on a keyboard it would be something I'd pay attention to.

I bought a relatively cheap and plain replacement. There's really nothing wrong with the current one except that it's like 14 years old and a bit dirty/dinged up. I didn't know there were quiet mechanical options, so I may have considered that if I hadn't already bought something. I know the mech nerds say there's satisfying clicks, but that was always a very big negative to me whenever I read it. I'm not playing competitive Fortnite or whatever, so I don't mind if I'm losing out a slight edge in games, and I really don't feel I type that much to the point it would be beneficial. However, a large positive part to me about mechanicals is so many seem to have a flat base, which seems very easy to clean around.

The volume wouldn't be my consideration so much as depression force and rebound and the feel between those two. With the data linked in mind, I would still want to test them out at a store if I could.

I've had considerably good luck with cheap keyboards and the plastic on this one will probably wear out faster than any of the functionality.

7 Day trial subscription of Adobe Acrobat Pro. I have to put together a big report/portfolio thing and I needed Acrobat to put it all together. I am going to pay at least $15 to Adobe for the 1 month subscription when it auto renews in a few days.

Anyway, I am really impressed by the program. It has all the features I need and want. Sucks that I have to pay a subscription for it. I need to figure out how to buy the student and teacher edition once I am done with this project.

Acrobat is good. I like the fact that it understands that I am copy and pasting text into a document exactly the same as the previous one and lines it all up perfectly for me.

I do plan to buy the full student-teacher edition. It will be useful in the future when I need to take more classes at puppetry college.

Re: suite softwares

Once again I am posting this link: https://www.greatamericancomputer.com/shop

No renewal or annual fee for Acrobat Pro DC?

I bought two licenses of Office 19 from these guys. I'd have to be nuts to get it from a place like Office Depot or Newegg.

Thank you again for this link. I remembered you posted it before. This is my final project of this year of puppetry so I am just going to eat the $14.95 or whatever monthly fee for acrobat and then once this thing is submitted cancel this sub. I don't want to fiddle with licenses half way through being done with what I am working on.

I am planning to do a clean up of this system and my online accounts this summer anyway.

I wish they had a deal with Adobe for CS packages. CS6 gets the job done and I own it forever, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth.

News from apple, so uzique may not have to regret not waiting for the m1.
https://gizmodo.com/apple-is-reportedly … 1846918048

Disclaimer, "crapload" in the headlines isn't the best first impression, but w/e:

Get ready for some more ridiculous codenames. These new chips are dubbed the Jade 2C-Die and the Jade 4C-Die. Bloomberg claims these chips will come in 20 and 40 core variations. The 20-core chip will also have 16 high-performance cores and four energy-efficient ones, an option for 64 core graphics. The 40-core version bumps things up to 32 high-performance cores, eight energy-efficient cores, and 128 core graphics.

If you thought we were done with new chips, we are not. The planned MacBook Air will have yet another chip, codenamed Staten, that’s basically a faster version of the M1. The Staten chip also bumps graphics cores up to nine or 10 and is expected to power the forthcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro.

There wasn’t much detail on the new iMac, other than it’s larger than the colorful 24-inch iMac Apple just launched at its Spring Loaded event. This tracks with previous rumors that said the new iMac would be “really big, bigger than the biggest one.” According to Bloomberg, Apple paused development on the big boy iMac months ago to better focus on the 24-inch model.

It was baffling, at least from a PC user’s perspective, that Apple stuck the M1 chip in each of its new devices this year. Well, it’s looking like that may have been a temporary strategy for the initial transition because if these rumors pan out, it looks like Apple is rolling out five new chips. It’s a lot to process.
I don't really understand what a PC user's perspective has to do with it, or why that's even a valid thought. How many different models of CPUs and GPUs, and frequencies, latencies, and sockets, pockets, slots, do we have to juggle for PC builds? Even buying pre-built can take a bit of research. "Mac is making things complicated!" Uh yeah, ok.

"Ridiculous codenames!" OK writer, off the top of your head can you tell me the difference between all the Intel lakes?

You can buy a one time license for Photoshop and Premiere through Adobe and it is very reasonably priced.

https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html

This seems like a fair price for Acrobat that I wouldn't mind paying. After all, I do pay for a fancy antivirus subscription. I support for profit software.

I don't (currently) have subscription AV stuff. Rather than have one suite running, I have a collection of various applications for different security purposes. For someone who doesn't know what they're doing with PCs, I'd probably recommend a suite.

A few years back I had a year of Kaspersky that was pretty good. I thought it was pretty funny that people were afraid of Russian software, yet they banked online using exploity browsers.

I went to buy a GT 720. Those are usually listed for about $40. I was surprised to see that it was listed on Amazon for $99. I checked other listings and something must be very wrong with either the GPU market or Amazon. The GPU I bought for $299 a little over a year ago is now listed as

This is normal even outside of amazon. I've commented on this sort of thing before, but it's funny how SLI was sold to PC builders as "buy one now, SLI later when cheap." That never seemed to happen. A rare sale maybe, but you're better off just replacing the card every couple generations if you think you can squeeze out more performance from your computer.

If I did it the SLI way, I'd still be on the 7x0 series myself. I don't have the tables in front of me but I'm pretty confident that two 760s won't outperform my 2070.
