I don't like libraries anyway. It is gross sharing surfaces that other strangers touched over and over again. Most libraries are haunted too.
Haven't checked out a physical book or visited a library since college.

libraries are great. public libraries, maybe not. but university libraries, scholarly libraries, law libraries, etc.
the british library is one of the best places in the whole damn city. you need postgraduate identification to get at the really good collections, though.

The libraries in Ohio were built in the 2000's because people in Ohio didn't unlock the libraries tech tree until the year 1994.

I understand these old buildings are hard to maintain, modernize, and weatherproof but people in the 60's and 70's committed crime agaisnt humanity when they destroyed these old buildings like the old Penn Station in order to put up glassy monstristies in their place.

they’re doing the same thing in paris with the gare du nord. to be fair the entire station and area generally has seen better days, but it definitely doesn’t need another generic shopping mall.

I am very interested by the same sort of thing and the local PBS station always has unexpectedly interesting programs about the city history, neighborhoods, architecture, infrastructure (water cribs are the shit), stuff you'd expect from public television. Got caught last weekend watching one all about the different L lines, and before that one about a lot of the cemeteries within city limits.
I've always wondered what sort of other major cities have comparable things. It isn't something I think I'd value, but I do find it adds to my appreciation of the city.

Public libraries are alright where I live. Surrounded by surburbia, (mostly) clean, good lighting, helpful staff. You can probably even avoid crusty pages if you stay out of the romance and manga. I'm not like RtHiKi who goes bonkers if he sees someone dozed off in a cushy chair.uziq wrote:

I've actually fallen asleep (for brief periods) in libraries before as a kid because my absurd schedule of morning and night school didn't always result in the best of sleep. I'm sure some people in passing thought I was escaping a bad home life or something.

Why did you even read a book on that subject?
I did read a book on HIV/AIDS for a class once. It was more about how the virus and disease worked than social commentary. Viruses are pretty crazy pieces of biology. Not even sure how something like that comes to exist.

Management of adversity is a tricky area, most people who think they're pretty clever fail horribly at it.
There's also a lot of misinformation about AIDS, this seems to be the truth.
