O365 online (onedrive) allows collaborative input. They even have version controls if you want to use them. Obviously some access control/confidentiality tradeoffs though

East of Eden is Steinbeck's best, in my opinion. Grapes of Wrath is such a solid book though. Steinbeck really has a way of conveying the distressing, urgency of the situation, and how dire it really was moving west.Jay wrote:

That book was okay. Overrated I feel. If it wasn't for the name, it wouldn't be on the best seller list right now.

Nice paper, crisp text, no illustrations except maps at the front and back.
The readers companion seems like a waste, flicking through it seems to mostly dredge up links to The Silmarillion, which I didn't care for and I'm not sure what doing so would really achieve.
I'll give it a go I guess.

what did you actually expect? almost nothing put together by christopher tolkien has really added a great amount. it's fan service. 'unfinished tales' was similar (and much bigger, iirc).
the silmarillion and the hobbit have probably been given the same box-set treatment by the same publisher.

I feel like an ideal setup for a LotR collector would be two matching box sets: one with Christopher's compilations, and one with his father's books. Indexed to a coffee table book of various art and illustrations.
I expected a bit more than "sentence 23 on page 392 of The Two Towers bears some similarities to paragraph 14 on page 594 of The Silmarillion", maybe some background, where the ideas came might have come from etc

there are lots of very good books on tolkien, a veritable cottage industry, in fact, many of them written by those pesky academics you hate. lots of quite tedious middle english, old english, and norse sagas scholarship, too.

And if it's just containing itself to book lore, there are probably more on-topic books you can rifle through that talk about where Tolkien dredged up his ideas. Every few years or so I'll fork some Tolkien-related book over to my dad who gets a kick out of that sort of thing.
