I'm unaware of any standard of care that advocates chopping off body parts that are 100% healthy because of a "feeling" by the patient.  Alien Hand Syndrome and Body Integrity Dysphoria are conditions similar to "gender dysphoria."  But for some reason the acceptability of chopping off an arm because the patient believes they are really a one-armed person born with too many limbs is not nearly as widespread as the acceptability of chopping off a penis for the same reason.

Transsexuals believe they are a member of the opposite sex.  They are not.  It's a denial of reality.  This is a mental illness.  I do not mean to imply that they do not suffer or this is a choice.  I can't imagine what they feel and I certainly do not envy their internal torment.  But that doesn't make their denial of reality any more valid, and it does not obligate others to take part in or validate their delusions.
I know that intuition may say it is deeply unnatural but I believe there are studies which have shown that there's a biological component of sorts; the brains of transgenders are/have developed to be more akin to the opposite sex than their current one. Hence their mismatched identity with their bodies.

Regardless it is such a tiny part of the population the popular outrage over this subject is just very odd to say the least. I doubt you know or have known any transgenders in your life. If such a small proportion of people want to look and act more like the opposite sex it will not affect you in any way. Their outsized presence in right wing politics is precisely because it is so rare. Why care so deeply and waste so much time over such an insignificant issue in society?

A lot feminist are going to be very disappointed to hear that their lifetime of arguing that men and women are equally competent and rational was wasted. We are making evolutionary psychology a thing again to not hurt the feelings of transgender people.

I would say the biggest part of the problem is a tiny amount of the population forcing people to play their pronoun game and making a show of going into any bathroom they want.

Is it pushed by the right though? They react to it, certainly. After gay marriage was legalized the vast army of LGBT lobbyists and activists lost their purpose for a while. They could either fold, having achieved their primary mission, or find a new one. They eventually pivoted to trans rights and that became the new thing in pop media. The problem is, even gays and lesbians think they're kind of icky, so it's a tougher sell.

Quoted because it's pretty much exactly what I was about to say, with the exception of the criticism of evolutionary psychology.

I'm not going to dive into the bathroom discussion, that's news to me. But if someone has taken hormones / done all the surgery and pretty much looks like a woman in every way, or a man if the change was vice versa, I have no personal objection to calling them he or she if they wish that to be the case. By that point I also see no issue with them adjusting their gender in population registries if possible. As stated it's such a tiny fraction of people, I don't see why it should concern me much.

Actually, even without all the surgery I'd be fine with calling people whatever they want. It's odd but shit I won't lose sleep over this.

But Larssen, what about all those LGBT activists? If they 'win' this battle, think of what they will move to next!? We have to drown their protests out because they complain too much.

A lot of people who were supportive of gay rights even think the modern trans stuff is too far out there or at least moving too fast. You can look at my post from 12 years ago and see that I supported gay rights. I have been supportive of them since freshmen year of high school when Bush ran on stopping gay marriage in '04. I am still supportive of legal gay marriage, and adoption. I am even in favor of covering them in anti-discrimination laws regarding housing, accommodation, education, and work. The guy who refused to bake their cake deserved to lose his business.

Transgender stuff on the other hand...a lot of stuff there that needs to be worked out instead of rushing forward.

I don't care if they win, honestly. I'm just annoyed professional activists exist at all.

I don't mind calling people whatever they feel like either. I like the argument trans activist made that "if you can remember 250 pokemon, you can remember what to call someone". I also wouldn't be bothered by a trans person who looks totally like a girl slipping going into the ladies bathroom. I don't think someone who went through all of that trouble to blend in as a woman would do so to start a scene in the bathroom.

But I strongly believe that people shouldn't be forced into thinking the below video is okay. If I saw that walk into a ladies bathroom I would be skeptical. And if we keep encouraging trans behavior, more scenes of nervous teen cashiers will be a thing.

As soon as stuff like this hits pop culture there will be copycats. The psychologists working with transgender people should be trying to weed out the wannabes before any permanent disfigurement occurs. As long as that is in place, I don't care what they do.

I still hold my original position in this thread: the military should not be on the hook to pay for it. They already have enough issues with women joining just to pop out a brood on the taxpayer dime and remaining nondeployable for years.

Can you put together a big long list of "Jay's approved military expenditures"?

Remember when I pointed out that the spending for gender reassignment is less than the military spends on viagra every year? I wonder what those numbers look like now.

I am very worried about trans advocacy towards young people. If a kids experiments with their same sex while in high school or college and eventually grows out then cool. Good on them. Party on. Trans stuff is different because changes to their bodies or hormone balances at young ages can be irreversible and catastrophic.

Oh christ are we really throwing the kids into this. It's like the 'gay propaganda' argument.

I'd put it under the same category as general sexual education : when they're old enough to have the sex talk they're old enough to have a preference talk. Kids aren't suddenly going to be asking for hormone therapy because transgender people have cultural acceptance ffs. Your kids won't start loving men because gay people can get married and have a pride day dude. Unless they're gay.

You clearly haven't been following this in the U.S. Trans activist do want kids to receive transition therapy. There are many parents going around saying "my 5 year old boy is transgender". If we keep encouraging this, we will get more of it.

And gay people getting more media exposure has probably led to more experimentation. Cool stuff. I don't care. Like I said, that is all a major difference from permanent body modification.

Yes I'm sure the trans movement's main and unanimous concern is hormone therapy of 5 year olds, ffs. You link me a youtube video, give me some barely coherent arguments and apparently let that drive and inform your views on transgender identity.

Go paint some more figurines, it's a much better way to waste your day.

My arguments were very coherent. You didn't address any of them. You just personally attacked me even though I am so nice to you. It is a fact that trans activist want to expand transition treatment to minors. Is that their first or most important objective? Of course not. But it's on the agenda. And if we continue to lose ground in other areas to the trans movement, we are going to have to one day accept that minors are going to want to transition and have the backing of the state to do so.

But do you know what is the worst thing of all? The fact that there is no space to discuss this issue or acceptable moderate position to hold. If you don't go 100% trans-activist, you get canceled.
