IQ tests in one form or another are still very common for employment in the US today.

In which industries? I've never had to take one unless you count the ASVAB.

Every decent consultancy (big 3, big 4), government jobs, international organisations, multinationals, they all use tests derived from IQ testing. Some use multiple. Middle management positions at plenty different companies also require timed cognitive testing. Number & figure sequences, deduction/induction, verbal reasoning, basic math & algebra etc.

At some companies new graduates are subjected to at least 2 cognitive assessments (1 up front, 1 in person), a group assignment, 3 rounds of interviews and a case study + writing proficiency tests. Maybe language testing as well. That's more or less what you can expect if you apply for foreign service or mckinsey or (management) traineeships with banks & big tech or industry players etc.

Of course this is only possible because of the fact that these companies find themselves comfortably swamped with tens if not hundreds of applicants for every vacancy. If you're specialised in a field in which there's more demand than applicants, you can generally escape this stressful experience. It's increasingly becoming the norm for everyone else. Testing standards are based on scores of current employees and new candidates are expected to score at least average though usually higher.

I have ad block on my home computer so I have no idea what most sites are selling. I looked at the conservative magazine National Review on my work computer and saw a bunch of giant banner and side ads for AR-15 high capacity drug magazines.

How weird is it to have to scroll past a giant gun ad to finish reading an article about a gay kid trying to join the schools Christian club? It's almost like they are promoting a paranoid and bitter mindset in order to sell guns.

Why didn't the people in Fresno riot and destroy their neighborhoods? Where was the big Black Lives Matter confrontation?

The kid was Hispanic. That's my point. Why didn't the Hispanics riot like the blacks? What went wrong or maybe right?

Police took a wild shot from 35 feet away towards a day care in addition to then ongoing abuses at the hospital (not removing cuffs) and that's your take? "Why didn't the Hispanics riot? The blacks would have."

Wow.

The daycare was closed. It was a Saturday.

nurseries and daycare can be open all the time here, depending.

i think the point is that they are just opening up on children in public spaces. could have happened on a wednesday judging by their training and use of force.

While they were assassinating the kid's character, the police brought up the daycare as leverage supposedly to help justify the shooting.

If they rushed the shot because he was on daycare premises, they thought it was open and still took the shot. If they knew it was closed, then it's not really a valid point now, is it. It's damning either way.

Less-lethal stores must really be collecting dust.

This clearly isn't the best display of community policing. This is why it is important that young minority men are taught to wear belts.

Remember this? I mean, how could you not.

While Kinsey lay on the ground with his hands raised, one officer, identified by the city as North Miami Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team member Jonathan Aledda, fired three rounds from a rifle, with one bullet striking Kinsey in the leg.[1][6] The shooting occurred a block from the group home where Kinsey worked at 1365 NE 128th St.[7]

Kinsey's lawyer Hilton Napoleon II provided the Miami Herald with a cellphone video of Kinsey lying on the ground, his hands in the air, moments before the shooting.[4] In the video Kinsey asks police not to shoot him, while his patient plays with his toy truck. Kinsey stated that he was trying to convince his patient to obey officers' commands.[1] The video also shows Kinsey telling police that he is unarmed.[1] In the video Kinsey is seen telling police, "All he has is a toy truck. A toy truck. I am a behavior therapist at a group home."[8] Kinsey is also shown telling his patient, "Please be still... lay down on your stomach."[8]

Kinsey stated that after being shot, police turned him on his back, handcuffed him, and left him bleeding on the road for 20 minutes.[5] Police did nothing to stop Kinsey's bleeding before an ambulance arrived.[9] A second video shows officers carrying rifles and patting down Kinsey and his patient while they lay on the ground.[1]

A witness to the shooting told the Associated Press that when police arrived, he grabbed binoculars and saw that the autistic man seated in the road, next to Kinsey, was holding a toy truck. He informed an officer that the man was holding a toy and not a gun, but she told him to back up and did not inform other officers. Kinsey was shot shortly afterwards.[10]

Official accounts show that at least 30 seconds before shots were fired, an officer clearly identified the item as a toy truck and shared the information with all the other police officers at the scene via radio.[11]

Kinsey survived the shooting after being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.[1][5][12] Kinsey said that at first his life flashed before his eyes, and thought of his family.[13] Kinsey added that being shot "was so surprising, it was like a mosquito bite." According to Kinsey, when he asked the officer why he had shot him, the officer replied, "I don't know."[1][5] Kinsey's lawyer stated that when another officer asked the shooting officer "why did you shoot this guy", the shooter again responded, "I don't know."[14]

It took over a year to finally arrest Aledda. Busted down from a felony to culpable negligence.

Speaking of AZ, IIRC Daniel Shaver suffered from five accidents fired out the barrel of an AR-15 with the words "you're fucked" etched onto it somewhere. Jury wasn't made aware of that last detail, but I think it speaks oodles for what kind of policeman this officer was.

Rehired later, then retired on a PTSD pension or something. Amazing.

The cop in the Daniel Shaver case wasn't great at giving directions. But Daniel Shaver was pointing his pellet gun out of the window of his hotel while drunk with a woman who was not his wife. He didn't deserve to be killed. Be he totally brought it on himself.

How is it they were able to escort that chick safely off the premises but fucked up so badly while Shaver was, under an unnecessarily long and bizarre string of orders, crawling on his belly toward them blubbering for his life. Whatever happened to "turn around, hands behind your head, walk backwards to the sound of my voice." Why did it have to be so complicated.

Dumb thing to do these days for sure even if it is airsoft, but that's a bit of a deflection from police conduct.

They wanted to shoot someone and engineered the situation so they could.

On the note of "well done big man,"

scene @ 1:25 - 2:32

Didn't even need a gun to ruin this kid's life, but I guess since they "found" marijuana in his pocket it's one more "enemy" off the streets.

The way he dropped the kid's head onto the ground like a sack of grain is a perfect analogy for police contempt for the public.
