Suicide by gunshot wound is the most common form of suicide. It accounts for about 50% of all suicides in the US. I think it's relevant, especially to the discussion regarding otherwise sane people using an extremely efficient tool for killing in an emotional lapse of judgement.

@MajorSpittle- yep, you nailed it.  Despite me multiple times saying i'm pro-gun and that I like shooting guns, every time I go to the range I pee myself because I'm so scared of them.  And when I see a mexican or black person I cross to the other side of the street (unless I've got a gun tucked away on my person - then I puff out my chest and gesture for him/her to come get sum). Thank you for your attempts at emasculating me, as if owning a gun makes you more of a man- wait, that may be it!  It may be that hardcore gun nuts like yourself are so fucking insecure about their manhood that they need a strap on the side of their hip to validate their manliness!

Suicide prevention is a mental health issue, not a gun control issue.

Do you disapprove of assisted suicide?

mental health is a ground spring that feeds into a lot of societal ills. violent crime, gun incidents, drug addiction, etc.

the game you're playing is basically semantic hot potato. it's very NRA-lite. gun control would help lessen the pressure on the other factors.

Easier than jumping off a building or driving my car into a telephone pole? If people want a painless death why is it you feel it's your job to prevent their wishes?

I think suicide is cowardly and selfish but I also feel it's their own life to dispose of if they wish. I just prefer they don't inconvenience me when they do so.

Yes, easier.  That's why it accounts for 50% of all suicides.  It's the easiest, most efficient way to do it.

What is wrong with being afraid of guns? I like looking at /r/gunporn on reddit and shooting them on vacation. But I don't like the idea of a stranger or untrained stranger being able to take their gun and shot me in the head on a whim. At least if they took an axe or halberd out I would have a fighting chance or someone could maybe stop them.

I know it isn't considered manly or masculine to say you don't like guns but it sounds like a form of toxic masculinity when men have to act like they aren't scared of guns or being shot.

Suicide by gun is definitely relevant, as it is a public health concern.

So you are afraid of cars and drills.  Nobody wants to be ran over, so I imagine you are afraid of some bad driver causing a head on collision.  Nobody wants to have a drill bit ran through their eye socket and out the back of their head either so you probably don't like the idea of a stranger pinning you to the ground and slowly doing that either.

No, it is ok to be a big pussy.  Just keep plenty of tissues in your purse Captain Vagina.

Hmm. I am probably the most drill and car accustomed person here since Reciprocity left (He was really into guns). Drills and cars are not designed to specifically damage things. Cars are to take Asian girls places and drills to put their furniture together. Guns are only used to destroy things. Not really the same.

according to his profile, Reciprocity is from Oregon. He is probably in there with them

No, it's a personal health concern. Your life is your own to do with as you see fit as long as you aren't causing injury to the life and liberty of others. To say that the state has more authority over your personage than you do is to admit that you are in chains.

If someone wants to kill them self it is their own business. If they want to use a gun to minimize their pain, who are you to deny them that final kindness?

It sounds to me like you are unfamiliar with the field of public health. (4 reesurch)

Suicide and euthanasia are rather different things. It's not nearly as contentious to help/allow a terminally ill patient to kill themselves than it is to drive every moody teenager to the tallest building in the county and tell them to jump. Yes, the state does have an interest in keeping you alive until you're no longer a productive member of society (and luckily, for about the past 100 years, even beyond that!). You also may be surprised that no health professional generally recommends suicide as a best course of action. Psychiatrists don't tell that to depressed people because 1. there are less permanent options to improve quality of life and 2. that's a fucking psychotic idea.

A "final kindness"? That implies we've arrived at suicide being the only rational choice, which suggests they've been given sweet fuckall for help up to that point.

I never said suicide is rational. Some people are just miserable. If someone is in such a shitty place that they want to end it, preventing them from doing so is a form of torture.
