If you want good IPA, here's my recommendations.

Sculpin (Ballast Point)
Big Eye (Ballast Point)
Pliny the Elder (Russian River, small batch)
Pliny the Younger (Russian River, small batch)
Blind Pig (Russian River)
Hopfather (Russian River)
Stone (Stone)
Ruination (Stone)
Long Hammer (Red Hook)
Green Flash (Green Flash)
Dogfish Head 90 minute (DogFish Head)
Victory Hop Devil (Victory)
Torpedo Extra IPA (Sierra Nevada)
Celebration (Sierra Nevada, seasonal)
Inversion (Deschutes)

Obviously a hard core west coast bias, but these are ones off the top of my head that I enjoy a lot.  I drink IPA and Pale Ales primarily, so you should listen to me.

i would add Troegs Perpetual IPA to that list, it's quite delicious

Saranac Chocolate Lager
That sounds fucking gross.
Chocolate was pretty mild, but you could definitely taste it. It's a bock so it worked. Sam Adams makes something similar which is probably slightly thicker than Saranac. Both are more than drinkable.

I've had a chocolate stout before. It was surprisingly good.

Racer 5 last. Not recommended.

Will have to finish off the Mirror Pond and Anchor Steam to determine which is actually better.
The Racer 5 will be drank when I don't have any other beer.
Just going by the label you can tell the racer will be bad, lol.

Racer 5 is a pretty acclaimed IPA.  It's not bad in my opinion, but there are definitely better IPAs out there.

Maybe I'm just conditioned to drinking beer that doesn't come from a bottle with a label better suited for brake fluid

Hercules Double IPA from Great Divide Brewery is the best IPA I've had. Comes in 4packs, has about 12%abv but the alcohol doesn't overpower in the least. It's a wonderbeer.

Dogfish 90min is also very high on the list, but seems to be hard/impossible to find in a lot of places (like here...). Sierra Nevada Torpedo is readily found and is quite decent IMO. Boulevard Double Wide IPA is also very good (much better than their Single Wide).

A seasonal that may be hard to find outside the midwest is Schlafly's Tasmanian IPA. The hops used give it a noticeably different taste than most other IPAs here, and it's really growing on me.

There is a LOT of good beer in the States, you just can't expect to find it in gas stations and the average chain grocery store...

E: And Racer 5 is pretty decent...the label is supposed to look gimmicky. Modus Hoperandi is another IPA that looks pretty unassuming (it comes in cans ffs), but is actually good. Perfect for someone who wants to fill a cooler but doesn't want a bunch of Pisswasser....

I had Sierra Nevada pale ale a couple times. Pretty good. I think APAs are nice, though I tend to find pale ales in general can be a bit too aromatic for me after a while.

Google says they source their hops from Australia. Interesting.

They do. And it really is a completely different flavor. I think a lot of people who might be on the fence about IPAs would be won over by it...IMO it's a more approachable taste, if that makes any sense...

Tried the Anchor Steam when I was out the other night. I like it, still like the Mirror pond better though.
