I bet a lot of people who don't know Sharia law well still wouldn't want to be governed by it.

Who "won" here? Nobody.
Personally, here's my timeline of the case.
Last year -- about a month of peaceful protesting/news coverage
Forgot about it
2 weeks ago -- oh they're finally doing that trial? oh okay.
For some reason you are downplaying the significance of this case and pretending as if everyone at bf2s is unaware that inner city black on black crime exists. DUHR? No shit. Are you really that thick as to not understand why members of the black community might be a little disturbed by this? More so that black on black crime? You know what, never mind, I already know the answer.
My cat took a shit two weeks ago that still has a higher IQ than you.
WTF I wasn't emotionally invested in this shit. I knew right off the bat the dude was going to get off and I loved slamming in your faces as you all bitched about how he was guilty/at/fault/piece of shit/fuck america/etcetc.
BTW, in case you guys forgot, I was right. About everything.

now something a little more lighthearted
i think the thing i've enjoyed most about the trayvon furor is how it has 'divided america'. it's just another example that you guys love to get fractious and start squabbling in giant packs. whether it's race, gun laws, or some other civil issue, america loves nothing more than to get in a massive media hype-storm over some issue. everyone becomes so ardently 'for' or so virulently 'against' that you'd think it's the end of the world. all the newspaper comments and youtube arguments over the months - you see them everywhere - it's like people are literally going out and buying 'team trayvon' or 'go zimmerman' t-shirts. and all of the 'crowds' opinion is almost unrelentingly stupid. like, really fucking dumb. check the youtube comments for that video above. two factions of people squaring up to one another literally shouting "YOU'RE STUPID!!!" into a yankee-babel cacophony. it's hilarious. do you even have debates or reasoned discourse in the mainstream news? talk about vox populi.

Youtube and other comments sections are an awful place to start if you're looking for reasoned discourse. Even the letters to the editor in the newspaper are written by batshit insane people.
You've gotta be kidding me

Crying? Why would I cry? I'm not nearly as emotionally invested in this as you are.
You think you're trolling the forum or something but you're just coming off as a seriously unintelligent guy, and it has little to do with your opinion regarding the case. Agreeing or disagreeing is one thing, but every time I or someone else has asked you why you believe what you do you've ignored the question. You're about as deep as a kiddie pool.

Umm. Sorry XM... But I doubt Jay or any of the others her really care. Just another mundane way to pass the time. He's got a level head, and like many of the others has a decent evaluation of situational events and unique perspective.

I think there is more racism on the part of Zimmerman's supporters than Zimmerman himself tbh. A lot of southerners seem to believe that Martin had it coming to him, and that's largely an offshoot of southern reverence for authority and general disdain for black people. You know both are true. Southerners respect cops, and the military, and law and order in general. Zimmerman represented that. On the flip side, Martin was expected by southerners to be trouble in waiting. It's a perfect storm of southerness that it's impossible for those outside of the region to empathize with. Up north, we're just as racist, but we hate cops. A wannabe cop is a huge target for derision.13rin wrote:

actually there are more guns now in NSW than before the ban post-port arthur massacre.Macbeth wrote:
This whole thing could have been avoided if people weren't allowed to carry guns in public. The Europeans, Japanese, and Australians all manage to survive day to day without being armed.

780k firearms in a state of 5 million people. that's a pretty high ownership rate.
we just don't have enough violence here to have uber high gun crime. why be a drug dealer slinging a gram of weed for 20 bucks when you can make the same money making coffee.
All the gun crime here is bikie gang related. A guy I work with told me about the drive by shooting that happened literally outside his house last week. One died, another wounded. Outside of that gun violence is very rare.

same could be said about the states, most gun violence is gang related and mostly pistols.Jaekus wrote:

Other than the periodic school massacres.

You need to defend against all those funnel spiders and taipans and box jellyfish.
Heck, even the platypus has venom!

no but it makes people like piers morgan look like an idiot when saying america should ban AR's but handguns for defence is ok when majority of gun crime are hand guns.AussieReaper wrote:

globefish: we also gotta protect ourselves from drop bears too. theyre scary as fuck.
why does it make piers look like an idiot? the rationale of defense is surely to repel or deter someone from attacking you. if you come under attack personally, in the street or in a home invasion, why would you need more than a pistol or a shotgun? i don't think it's stupid to want to ban AR guns at all. they are completely disproportional for any sort of defense. what are you defending against? night-time spetsnaz raids? it's ludicrous. AR's are for rednecks that want to go and hunt wild animals with way-OTT killing machines, or they're for gun fetishists that like emptying serious ordnance down a range. that's maybe fair enough, in a sport/simulation sort of scenario. but why does anyone need an AR in actual civilian life to 'defend' themselves? it is a grossly offensive weapon. nobody needs more than a pistol to keep themselves safe in day-to-day life. letting people buy AR guns is just letting people buy weapons with the design, purpose, and capacity to kill a whole lot of people. save for a zombie apocalypse, nobody needs a gun with the ability of an AR-15 to 'defend' themselves.

colombine was high-powered carbine rifles, tec-9 semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, and a lot of improvised bombs. not a pistol shooting.Cybargs wrote:

Wow Uzi, you are a fucking idiot.
If you are concerned about saving lives or lowering crime, going after AR's is like going after 0.005% of the problem because it's the scariest looking 0.005%. Forget that the other 99.995% of the crimes being committed are happening with handguns (which no one has been calling for a ban on).
