when the historian makes a fuckup and the actor plays it out (eg "Alexander Hamilton shot a bullet right into... Alexander Hamilton" in the first or "about... about... about..." in the 5th) are the funniest parts

It doesn't have as much of a plot as non-animated shows, I think is his point. You can watch most episodes out of order and it won't be a big deal. There are a few that hearken back with references to earliers events, but for the most part it's for the sake of jokes and not out of some grand story arc.

Futurama is an animated sitcom. It is not a series. South park is also an animated sitcom. Simpsons too.

Futurama has as much story in it as South Park ands as far as storytelling is miles beyond modern Simpsons
