Why do spree shooters single out AR15s and similar?

Semi-automatic firearms with high-capacity detachable magazines are going to be the obvious pick for spree shooters over bolt-action rifles with a single small fixed magazine. They fire quickly and can be reloaded quickly.

They pick military-looking firearms because they're typically tacticool-drooling dumbfucks who don't really know much about firearms, whats useful and effective and whats not, that and they want to be the big tough guy with the big tough-looking gun so it needs to be big and black and have accessory rails all over - like this guy:-

There can't be many teenage Sh1ftys who don't want to be that guy.
Yes I do blame Hollywood to some extent.

I've made some suggestions before in this thread, here are some more for the day:

You want to exercise a right to self-defense? Fine, a 5 shot .38 revolver or a .32 auto will more than adequately fulfil the function. You don't need a Glock and ten magazines.

You want to exercise a right to bear arms and practice skill at arms as part of a citizens militia? No problem, you can have a bolt action .30-06 - in the event of a tyrannical govt 100m people with bolt actions should be able to depose the govt without trouble. Then again since they have battle tanks, helicopter gunships and predator drones I think you'll be out of luck whatever small arms you have.

You really have to play with heavy calibre and high capacity semi/full-auto weapons - OK, join a real militia - like the National Guard.

I don't claim it would eliminate mass slayings entirely, but I think it would make them less common.

Semi-auto pistols with large mags are used more commonly.

Erm no.

Arguing a gun safe is like a poll tax is like arguing that paying taxes on a gun or paying for a permit is unconstitutional.

Do you really want someone who is too poor to take some easy steps towards being a more responsible gun owner owning a bunch of guns? If you can't afford a safe then you can't afford a gun.

That is the same as..
If you are too poor to pay the poll tax, then you can't vote.

Then what the heck happened during Schenck v. United States or even Brandenburg v. Ohio?    So we can put qualifiers on 1st amendment rights, but not 2nd amendment ones?

Banning semi-automatic weapons is as likely to happen as finding Russel's tea kettle.

Better than writing completely ineffective laws that do nothing positive.

Lol. Ok. We should change our entire way of life, give up all of the freedoms granted to us by the constitution, all because twice a year a psycho decides he wants some attention. You want the entire country changed because 2 out of 300,000,000 people have serious issues. Do you issue a recall when 2 out of 300,000,000 parts fail? No.
