I am starting th play battlefield  2, but currently have issues with my ISP, but just wanted to know what the last icon on the TAB screen is.

The screen I am talking about is the one that has score, kills, deaths etc
It looks like two computers, so wonder if its the ping to the server.

I have noticed that some people have the numbers in green, red or black.

What is a good number range to be in also?

its ping dude...its how fast your computer is sending and recieving signals to the server.

It indicates your ping, more or less the lower this is the better. It's the time that's between what you see and what's actually happening on the server. Mine is mostly between 20 and 30 ms.

Cheers guys, thought so, just wanted to make sure.  Mine runs at about 20 when I don't get kicked off by my ISP, wish I never went to a Max 8mb line now though.
Hopefully my ISP sort it out with BT so can start to play and not worry about being disconnected.

in my opinion, if you have anything under 80, you won't really notice the difference...especially if you're new to gaming.

Ultimately, it's most important that you be lower than everyone else, because that gives you a slight advantage.

If you've ever been in a game where you and another guy are shooting at eachother and you duck down behind the wall and you SWEAR you ducked before you got hit...it's ping that makes you get hit.  your computer shows you what is happening from its perspective, which will always be slightly different from the server's perspective.  However, the server's perspective is what counts.  So when you ducked, your computer allowed you to duck before the server told your computer that you had died.

Ping is measured in Miliseconds.  the closer to 0 you are (it will never be zero), the closer to actual "real-time" you will be.

I hope that this helps you
