for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. it'll be out in 12 months and everyone will forget bf3.
fully moving towards the CoD release strategy.
imho 2142 sucked in comparison to bf2. if 2143 sucks in comparison to bf3 then... well, lol.

2142 was actually probably better in terms of balance than BF2 + they actually innovated a bit (shame the coding couldn't back up their efforts). probably the main issue with it was graphically it was boring (grey/brown/white/black) and (most of) the maps didn't have any unique feel.

i thought all the weps sucked, the shooting felt simplified and much easier, and the movement was also simplified.
in terms of core fps gameplay it was a downgrade from bf2 in every regard

whaaaaat
it was the last battlefield title where you actually had to aim/controlled bursts/consider range and all that. iirc they did slow movement down by offering different armour 'types' or whatever it was so i give you that. the vehicles were a mixed bag, light vehicles (especially on northern strike) were really fun, tanks were awesome and the pod ejection thing on the APCs/transport helo thing added a nice element. the air combat thing blew chunks though, and the walkers weren't thaaat good.

so i wouldn't call it a downgrade like BC1+2 where it really was a totally different experience, more of a sidegrade where some things got better, some got worse.

so basically what i'm trying to say with a fried brain is, it was a pretty good game actually, maybe a 9 if we call BF2 a 10.

bf2 was like an 8-9/10 and 2142 was a 7, at best.
the fundamental gameplay (i.e. shooting) was just totally noobified. sure it still had recoil but... come on. it had none of the nuance of bf2.

possibly because of the slower movement like i conceded but being good with rifles like the BAUR or SCAR f.ex actually required skill and all the weapons felt sufficiently different to use (i miss that the most)
e;i meant comparing the two using BF2 as the baseline, ergo giving that the 10. not what it was in comparison to everything else xox

The fact that there is any mention of 2143 this soon after the BF3 release is to me an admission of failure by Dice/EA. That failure of course being BF3.
don't see it as an admission of failure, just see it as them gearing the hype up for their next annual cash-cow. if you think they care about the actual quality of the games they make/publish well then...

Not caring about the quality of the games they make is an admission of failure as it reveals their greedy and non-artistic inspirations. They failed to make a game worth the marketing that went into it.
^ yep precisely. bf3's success is 90% marketing hype and 10% current-gen gameplay. the entire games industry is one big cabal: the publishers want games, the designers are complicit with their design aims (viz. business aims, not artistic aims), and the entire gaming press and 'criticism' establishment sucks off whatever they do and gives it a GOTY award because the publishing companies making billions of $ from this factory-line design ethos are, of course, pumping millions of advertising money into the 'secondary' industry (e.g. the game websites, magazines, critics). it's a massive set-up and the only person not wearing a massive grin is the gamer him/herself.

that does depend entirely how they qualify success, which is what i was getting at. i'd imagine for them it would mean lots and lots of money, so er, they didn't exactly fail

10 years ago everyone was excitedly talking about games being a new artform, finally at the point of technological advance and capacity where some genuinely interesting things could be done. 10 years ago you had games like half life and max payne showing that video-games could be art (according to all aesthetic principles).
today people talk about the games industry, because that's all it is: a factory line for short-cycle consumers.
hence the quantitative evaluation of 'value' and the qualitative examination of 'quality' have changed from art-terms to business-terms.

Let's face it BF2 was as good as it was because of the ones who made the DC mod. I doubt EA/DICE/W/E will ever come close to hitting that mark again.

2142 > bf3
I loved 2142, thought it was much better in most regards (for the average leisure time pub player that I am at least)
And walkers rocked, i loved them.
