HTC hero my word what an old ass phone. Miui ROM looks amazing but it's a bit of a battery drainer I heard. Cm7 is supposed to be good.

any good apps I absolutely need?
I don't plan on getting many nor do I look at my phone and see an all-in-one everything device, so only stuff that I absolutely cannot live without...

yeah I got it cheap as I wanted to get on to android, changed my mind now, selling it and getting a second hand 3gs for £70. Will probably come back to android when I can get a brand new phone.wah1188 wrote:

for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
That's probably a good deal for now I would say wait for a bit until more Android phones ship with the new OS which does look rather good.
you don't absolutely need any ..lolpirana6 wrote:

google music uploading is SO SLOW
Onavo is the only app everyone needs. Unless you unlimited data...Kmar wrote:

6GB so I dont really need it. Plus its an included feature in ICS
Unlimited... wouldn't need it anyways.

Yea that would not fly with me.. as I'm almost already there and I'm only about half way through my cycle.Winston_Churchill wrote:

one that tracks my data (2 gig max)
one that kills background applications that slow down phone and suck valuable battery
espn
notepad
juice defender, sms backup+, handcent sms, titanium backup, widgetsoid
i looked at juice defender for a bit. it seemed like it just turned off a few things that anybody that spends a little while getting comfortable with the inner workings of their phone could do: turn off wifi/bluetooth, change the update to rarely instead of often, etc.
its quite useful to have it automated though. especially for turning data off when the screen is off, saves hours and hours of battery for me
I did twice that last month..lolWinston_Churchill wrote:

go sms pro has built in backup... handcent doesn't?
I really wish you could send google voice text messages with a third party app.. cause I love the extended features you get with them.
afaik gv is still working out mms kinks. You can however receive them via the third party app.. which is useless considering your reply comes from your carrier number and not your gv number.
I only use gosmspro now when I need to send a mms
"wrong number" because we usually text via my gv number.

Also consider Astro for managing file. Comes with a task killer now as well.pirana6 wrote:

better than advanced task killer froyo?
i didn't do much research. it was one my friend had.
edito:
also it's common that MANY of the apps start up again even though I don't want to and have to kill them quite frequently if I want them gone?
Ill kill everything but messaging and if i don't do anything, an hour later my verizon, maps, voicemail, and a few others will be up. i can hardly imagine those waste much battery but still, its the principle

Truthfully I use android assistant. It just so happens that Astro comes with one as well though. .. just not the primary reason I have it.

im told those things do more to eat your battery than actually help
I don't have a problem with them. I have however heard the debate with regards to the usefulness of task killers. I can say that I do notice a difference though when I manually close services/processes. I'm not entirely sold on androids ability to handle it on it's own tbh.

they're useless on Honeycomb.Kmar wrote:

Well, I can only speak on my own personal experience.. which is currently rooted on gb.
