Canalys: Android rules the smartphone world, Samsung could've done better
Thought Android was killing it in the US? Try the rest of planet Earth, bud. The latest from our friends at Canalys has Google's mobile OS on 48 percent of smartphones worldwide, or nearly one out of every two sold. Mountain View's stratospheric rise came at someone's expense, and it looks like Nokia's the loser here folks, which corroborates the data from last week's IDC report. Espoo's foibles are troublesome in a market that grew 73 percent year over year, especially when Samsung shipped 421 percent more handsets than it did a year ago. As a result, the Korean company has surpassed Nokia in smartphone marketshare, just like its rival in Cupertino. Despite the rampant growth, the research firm suspects Sammy could have done better, noting that it had failed to capitalize on Nokia's "weakened state around the world" with its "global scale and channel reach." We'll see if Samsung takes Canalys' constructive criticism to heart in Q3, but while you wait, you can read the full report after the jump.

You could always flash a custom rom which has gingerbread but I'm sure there is a way to install gingerbread by just downloading the update from other places you'll have to look into it.
Just installed the swype beta over my stock swype it's like ten times better.
why does my dialer use 34% of the battery when i hardly ever call anyone?
my dialer is only using 7% now. i turned off quiet ring on pickup, pocket mode, and flip for speaker in the settings > sound menu. give it a try

do you have an android phone? if yes, tell me all the apps that run that you can't disable. If no, well then your opinion doesn't matter.Finray wrote:

im just wondering in general. i heard you can't disable some apps without rooting it
I think it depends on the carrier. When I first got my Android phone there was some stupid (Verizon pushed apps) on there that I couldn't get rid of. There isn't now though. Verizon had an update that came out about a month or so before GB. Android Assistant used to be able to stop any app. I am not sure if it still will since I haven't had a need for it since the last update though.

main motivation to root really, after all it is your phone
to run certain apps (like screenshot and wireless tethering apps) as well as custom roms are good reasons.

This really fucking cool.
The phone fucntion on my HTC hero stopped working. I can still call people fom my contacts list, but i cant dial a number. As soon as i press the call button at the bottom of the screen, the call screen (with the numpad and recent calls) pops up, well, so far so good right? But within 1 second the screen sort of goes a bit darker (the same way when you havent touched the screen in a while) and it doesnt respond to any touch. Only way to get out is to pres the home button.

And updates? For the HTC Hero? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They ditched that phone a loooong time ago when it comes to updating. A lost cause.
Sucks to be you, then
I love my Desire. Never had any problems, apart from lack of memory, but I've my ways of sorting that out, now.

htc makes great phones. But only for a year or so, everything before that was waaaaay too techy for the mainstream crowd (HTC sense made it easy for everyone), and then there was this one phone in between. One of the first with HTC sense, but without the hardware to properly handle it.
Meet the HTC hero.
fuck yeah.....
