Great Cracked article about the direction gaming is headed in. I thought it was pretty funny but also very accurate. This is probably why I haven't been very excited about video games in a while... everything is a sequel or a remake or something like that. I was excited for BF3 and still kind of am, but I keep worrying they're gonna copy CoD. And speaking of CoD, I'm probably gonna pass on MW3 because I bet you it will be just like MW2 and Black Ops and CoD4, only with new weapons sights!

Does anyone else feel the same? I want something new and original and exciting. Not Halo fucking 4.

RTHKI, RTFA lol there's more than just that first picture.

Marine, if I was a game publisher then yes I would be reluctant to change something knowing that the sheeple will still gobble it up as long as you tweak the graphics and box art. Gamers need to start putting their feet down and demanding some innovation.

The first BioShock was pretty good, as was World in Conflict. I hadn't played an RTS like WiC before WiC.

I agree with some of the OP article, but the author just sounds like a cynical asshole.

BioShock?

Innovative?

The whole game was just a watered-down version of the game System Shock 2. Jesus they even copied the fucking name.

True. I haven't been able to find a happy medium between the two, though.

The gameplay was quite similar, but the story felt far more involved (even though they did reuse the audio logs) with the whole "Rapture" thing.

Game journalism!

Where you get to choose between corporate sellouts and exceedingly cynical hipsters!

The story was pulled almost exactly from SS2's though. The only real change was the setting. Which I'll admit BioShock's setting was actually very unique.

Lewl, David Wong a hipster. It's not even gaming journalism, it's a Cracked article FFS. They do list-based humor reliant on dick jokes (I still enjoy it though)

Two posts up. He was using BioShock as an example of an innovative game.

oh my bad, i read his 'demand for innovation' rhetoric as some future postulate

didn't connect his examples of previous 'good' games as ones that seemingly answered a demand for innovation

30 years of gaming

not much room left for new innovation .... till we get some radical new technology

Plenty of room for innovation if anybody can figure out how. There's even some genres that could be revived.

i'm sorry but if you think gaming has creatively exhausted all of its options then you're fucking stupid.

if you guys vehemently arguing that gaming is an 'art' form really want to be taken seriously... then why are you so quick to say that gaming's creative lifespan is dead? literature, film, painting and architecture seemed to do just fine after their first 30 years.

you're excusing what is essentially a corporate-steered business model to milk cash out of games with some bullshit 'there's nothing left to do!' crap

yeah right

yeah, precisely. it's not as if gaming has ran out of options... it's that people just want to sit on their sofa and be given the same shit, over and over.

a deadend, sure. but it's self-created and self-defeating.
