Oblivion ftw, I'm a level 36 Argonian sneaky stabbing alchemy illusion type person. I've got 125% chameleon (permanent invisibliity) too.
Now, time for a little rant.
OBLIVION HAS NO DEPTH!
goddamnit, the game is so beautiful, has such a huge terrain, such incredible characters, it all seems so great at the start. But once you've learnt the game and have finished the rather small offering of guilds it has, you'll quickly notice that without scripted events there is jack shit to do. Why can't I make potions that you can buy in any shops? It's impossible to make a potion that instantly restores your health, you can only make one that does it over time. Yet every potion you find or buy does just that. There are potions you can buy or find that have extremely powerful effects, but yet you can't make these. When you've become a master in alchemy, you can create potions from a single ingredient. But you can't choose which effect, you can only use the first effect it gives you. The fact that so much exists that we, the players, cannot make really pisses me off.
Enchanted weapons and items are very valuable, especially when they have multiple enchantments on them. While players can add a single enchantment to items, there is no way you can add more. Why? We'll never know. Yet every rare and valuable item can have as many as FIVE enchantments at once.
there are a GAZILLION ruins and caves throughout the province, but none of them stand out. at all. They're all of the generic bash bash pick up the same worthless crap type. Not once is there anything remarkable to find in any of the 100's of locations.
And the leveling system - it is such shit. At level 10, I had trouble fighting a goblin warlord. At level 36, it takes me just as much effort to kill one. That's because everything in the game levels up WITH YOU. WTF?!
Weapons and items that can be found or bought are completely tuned to your level - it is impossible to get a hold of extremely valuable weapons or armor when you're low level. In morrowind, I'd nicked myself a full set of glass armor in no time. In Oblivion, you have to reach somewhere around level 20 before it even exists.
Even the enchantments on weapons and armor that you find are fine tuned to your level.
The cities have very little going on, only a few scripted quests. There is nothing remotely secret or interesting. Every house is the same. You've burgled one - you've burgled them all.
And of course, there's the "bounty" system. Even if you sneak into someones room, paralyze and silence them without them seeing you, but take more than one hit to kill them you will be reported to the guards and get a fine for assault. HOW?!
There is nowhere near enough depth or character in Oblivion. It has so many things, but so little detail. Wide, but not high. I hope that a mod, or an expansion pack, or even a sequel will bring me these things. Because if it does, I will probably never play anything else again. Considering all the complains I have about Oblivion I've still immensly enjoyed playing it for over a 100 hours now. So not all's bad.
