My regular gaming mag has Rome: Total War in the Gold Edition, shall I give this a go? I never played a total war game before.

Have you played any turn-based strategy games before? Either way, it's pretty easy to pick up on. Not near as much stuff to manage which makes it a bit nicer and more interesting to play than Empire TW imo.

Hm, I´ve never been a fan of turn based strategy, but I reckon I´d like some slower paced gameplay for a change. Will prpbably give it a go then, it´s free afterall. Thanky bugz!

The Total Wars arent turn based? At least the fighting isnt. The whole empire building thing is done with turns but the actual battles are real time.

Not if you auto-resolve.

My team: 800 soldiers with a general......Enemy team: 300 soldiers with a general
*Auto-Resolve*
You killed 100 people
Enemy killed 700 people

That's generally how auto-resolve ends up working for me.

Perhaps you should actually play a few battles on your own so you get some of your troops some experience, ebug. That way, they're not complete idiots and have slightly better statistics. Works wonders if you have a general who gains traits, too.

After 1000+ hours in the total war series I can definitely say- never use auto resolve.

I generally play the battles in real time anyway. Although when I'm short for time or I cba controlling what I think will be an easy battle (when I have experienced general and troops) I click auto-resolve and it very rarely comes out in my favour.

I would ask what the point of playing is if you are just auto resolving the only game part. At that point you might as well play one of those excruciating Patrician or whatever games.

I agree. But there are some people who do that. Retards.

Played through the tutorial so far. It's kinda fun doing stuff like making planets collide.

That´s what I thought and I almost bought it. But I´m not that into the physics of space and after you condensed a whole galaxy in a giant black hole there isn´t much more to do for the average gamer, is there?
Theres no campaign or challenge mode or something like that as far as I saw.

I'd recommend it if you were a fan of Microsoft Space Simulator. USandbox has a feedback command where you can send suggestions in, and I bet mine of "SPACESHIPS" was one of several thousand.

Haha, I believe that. I never played Space Simulator, never interested me. I guess I keep looking for a demo then, or a really cheap deal. Colliding stars does look really fun though

Space Simulator is pretty fun if you can find a copy and get it to run. Way more exciting to land on Mars or dock with a space station or fly into a neighboring solar system with fictional planets or to zoom out of the galaxy, turn time rate way up and watch it spin away than...*takes a breath* than Flight Sim.

Fable 3 pre-loaded and ready to go. For that matter, I finally installed New Vegas.

Picked up Operation Flashpoint: DR for $5 off steam. Worth the money?

I've heard it's shit, but I figured it's only $5 so even if I only get a couple hours out of it I haven't lost much...
