yeah i really dont care to search some database. but i highly doubt there has been a "common" occurrence of breaches of credit card information of this scale. i can think of maybe 1 or 2 off the top of my head. maybe you have a strange idea of common
Wow this is a monumental fuck up.
I've been hearing that they have been storing information as plain text. Plain fucking text. No encryption whatsoever. That's beyond stupid.
Meanwhile, at the official PSN site.

Also, throphies, lol.
so if you are the victim of identity theft due to this and have to go thru all the money and issues to get your credit back you should not be compensated? well that makes you a typical euro douche tbhRDMC wrote:

Note to self: start buying PSN cards at the store and use those to add "money" to the "wallet" and make online purchases with that.
In all likelihood, my identity will not be stolen, my saved credit card information will not be used. But it's the principle of the situation. I gave Sony my info expecting it to be safe and secure. No PS4 for me, I guess.

only thing thats bothering me is i cant upload my fifa goals or play online
maybe i should care more about my info being stolen but i couldnt care less for some reason, i cant see anything happening

i've gotten about 4-5 notifications that various credit cards/medical benefit sites/bank info has been possibly comprimised over the last few years. That's just me. I got another one two weeks ago. That's fairly often as far as I'm concerned.tazz. wrote:

No I'm saying he shouldn't be so fucking paronoid and think that his credit card details will be picked out of the 77 MILLION other people that have a PSN account.11 Bravo wrote:

Once he does get to that point, obviously he should be compensated for his troubles, but to even say that this is Sony's fault is fucking stupid.
Lol.11 Bravo wrote:

hide yo cards, hide yo accounts, 'cause they charging everything in hereThe number of Ars Technica readers who have had issues with their credit cards in the past few days, and have commented, e-mailed, or Tweeted about the issue, is alarming. We may be dealing with a coincidence in timing, but when your inbox is heavy with people saying they're fighting fraudulent credit card charges, it may be the first signs of fire somewhere in the smoke....
"My American Express card was compromised over the weekend," one commenter stated. "This card sits in a drawer in my house for emergencies, but I did use it once on my PSP for an account. Luckily American Express is very good at notifying me immediately after the first fraudulent purchase."
Another reader e-mailed with a similar story. "About two or three days ago, my bank notified me that I had gotten my own [credit card information] stolen, the one I use for my PSN account, and with it a ticket was purchased through a German airline for nearly $600," she told Ars. "They are still looking into the fraud charge meaning that right now I have a negative $500 in my account, with no good chance that I'll be getting that back any time soon."
Another reader had a similar issue. "I had a call from my credit card company trying to verify a purchase which ended up being fraudulent. Same card I use on Sony's network. They denied [the charge] and issued me a new card," the reader commented. "Might be coincidence, but with the other security gaffes recently, I'm guessing not. Not sure what my opinion of Sony is right now and what my future is with them."
Don't think I ever used my debit card on my PSN account... it's only linked on my XBL account. Think I'm good. Gonna change my PW anyways.
