So, I started playing Far Cry 2. Is it me or are the controls really sluggish?
Oh you fool why did you start playing Far Cry 2. It's just awful on every level.
It came with the Ubisoft Weekend bundel and I thought I give it a go. Played for about an hour.

1st, Malaria? REALLY?
2nd Africa, it´s a shithole.

I´m not sure I can go there. The mouse feels totally unsmooth, which I guess comes from the console port. The landscape is beautiful (from what I´ve seen so far) but the gunplay is not fun. And I´m no sure there is even a story? lolKampframmer wrote:

I didnt have any mouse problems. The side missions are all the same and you cant drive around without encountering an annoying checkpoint every 5 mins. Didn't really mind the gunplay. And there is a story, it's just that the missions to get there are also very similar to the side missions with a few exceptions here and thereSisco wrote:

It´s not mouse problems per se, the mouse just feels slow and clumsy, compared to lets say BFBC2. I might give it anoher go later today, havn´t set anything on fire yetKampframmer wrote:

Haha, yeah, I noticed the AI isn´t really clever. Sat on the hill to scout out that first camp you get to (to free you´re first buddy) taking potshots with an AR. Dropped 3 of the fuckers before they even started to go for cover.Kampframmer wrote:

Wow, I can´t believe how annoying that game is. Why is everyone shooting at me? And why do post reinforced 5 minutes after I cleared them out? If Africa had that much man power, it would rule the world...
1. Drive around in a jeep with a mounted machine gun on in.
2. Dont use the roads.
If you play doing that (even just the not use roads thing) Far Cry 2 is a really good game. It's sad it got so much hate because it tried to do more than other open world games and just got slammed over a few issues. I played it through twice and enjoyed all of it. It really felt like you were sneaking through the jungle and patching yourself up while trying to not die from malaria.

I like what I've played of it so far. Even the malaria. I think using it to kill you if you go outside the zone was a cheap move, though.
That is pretty lame, I forgot about that (or maybe never tried to escape). Every open world game has something I suppose. The sharks/battleships of Crysis I thought were pretty good. Invisible walls and randomly unscaleable mountains of Oblvion not so good. Still the best ones have always been the infinite ocean/space - Morrowind and Freelancer (and the GTA's I think?) for example.

Far cry 2 was so annoying and repetitive I'm surprised I bothered finishing it.
Far Cry 2 thought it would be a good idea to completely do away with scripted scenarios.

I´m using the mounted gun, but though playing on normal, the enemies take quite some hits before they die, which in return forces me to leave the gun to heal myself. Some of the mercenaries carry body armor, but the peasants with AK´s shouldn´t need more than 1 shot to the head to die.
The game looks absolutely gorgeous though. I love the force knocking back plants and shit when you blow up something.
It sure has potential, but I´m not sure I can cope with the forced encounters, just because bad guys spawn 100m in front of me. I´ll give it some more time I think (and I´m curious how the savannah looks), but I doubt I´ll see the end.
Yeh, I think because I spent so much time sneaking around and not anywhere near the road, when people spawned they never saw me or I ambushed them instead. I can understand why people wouldnt like it but the amount of people who came out and pretty much called it the worst game ever was surprising.
Open world whatever games are my favourite genre though - whether FPS/RPG/whatever - I like the exploration as much as any of the gameplay.

Not really open world was it. The top half of the map was just roads really, you couldn't walk on like 60% of the terrain.

I will have to play this again because I dont remember half these things. All I remember is exploring a cool desert, pulling bullets out of my limbs and the dart gun.
Desert was the south map if I remember correctly. Which was the better half, I suppose.
Oh and the jeeps were too damn slow.

I just rolled in the GL jeep, with a .50 and that semi auto GL.
