I ranked 10k plays or more in the op. Anything less is too much maintenance. I'll try to update it monthly.

May as well ask this here:
Winamp: ugly, bad for anything but small libraries
iTunes: looks nice, organized, but won't play flac and randomly deletes album art or fucks up tags
what do I try next?

foobar2000? Tried it myself but cba to configure everything. But it plays everything and finds everything and tags everything pretty well it seemed.
i use foobar, it's just simple and easy
I <3 foobar2000. So clean and simple. The indexing is awesome. Type the name (or part) of the song you want and the possible matches show up instantly in the track list.
And it plays FLAC
And it plays FLAC
er.. last.fm scrobbles audiobooks?
tags/genre is correct in iTunes

I guess it picks up anything with sufficient meta data.

Unfortunately...
Songbird can look great if you put a little effort into it. I still prefer windows explorer + wmp though....

It takes all files, takes huge libraries (or so I'm told, I use it with my ~70GB and that works without issues) and will do that "organize files" thing (which is awesome). Auto-tagging is rather lacking, but what do you expect when the source is Amazon? You can add other sources though, if you want, but I prefer to manually genre-tag anyway.
@Kmar: I'd love some of that Stephen Hawking rap
There is also some cool scripts for mm.Jenspm wrote:

Also, if you have an album in a format not supported by your mp3 player (e.g. flac), when transferring it to the player mm will automatically transcode it to mp3 "on-the-go", meaning you won't need several formats on your PC (you end up with flac on your PC and mp3 on your iPod, basically). Saved me a lot of time/effort.
You'd want to get MediaMonkey gold for that though, as it has unlimited mp3 encodes.

Who usus the last.fm ipod app? How does it work? Does it require an intetnet connection to sync the songs listened to or does it just dump the listened to ones once you sync it to itunes? I can't get it to update my plays
I'm not on the list.

I think you have to be connected while you are playing. I don't think it caches the plays. I'll have to charge up my touch and test it to see.Winston_Churchill wrote:
