My favorite is:
*Positives* Custom PC support like in-game text chatting and keyboard+mouse control
*Negatives* No dedicated servers, etc.

IGN rating for the PC version: 9.5 / 10 "Incredible!"For those of us looking to pick up the game on PC, a few more things need to be noted about Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward has worked to make sure the experience on PC is identical to that of 360 and PS3, and while I'd say the team has succeeded overall, that's so a good and bad thing for various players. On the plus side, you're getting the same amazing experience as the other versions, and those that want a game that's easy to jump into online and connect with other players will find it with the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. What that also means, however, is that the PC version is also locked to the same restrictions as the other versions, so 32 person matches are a thing of the past, you can't create dedicated servers for match hosting, and that also will result in a lack of future mod support and PC-specific expansion. While this is definitely a downside for those familiar with the expandability of PC gaming and freedom that comes with a more open source platform, IW is essentially forcing the PC version to play by the same rules as the console offerings, and thus making sure anyone that wants to jump in and get the intended Modern Warfare 2 experience can do so across any system. It'll hurt the hardcore PC community, and but it's a decision IW made.
Should Infinity Ward have included more expandability across PC – be it in more players online, dedicated servers, or through other avenues – the PC version would have been reviewed as such, and the added features would have (we can only assume) helped the version go above and beyond its console counterparts. Seeing as it's the same core experience, however, we are reviewing it as such, and the game should be looked at as the same value and overall package as any other console.

Part of me thinks it was voted low just for spite, that seems to be the case with everything at the minute.
So, if I pretend I´m playing on a console while playing it on PC, the game is awesome? Sound logic.AussieReaper wrote:

But c'mon, IGN is supposed to have some integrity when it comes to game reviews, surely?M.O.A.B wrote:

IGN probably does overrate, but there must be something for them to rate the game favourably. From some of the reviews that I've read the game (particularly MP) is said to be more fun than COD4, more balanced (inb4 balanced for lean). I wouldn't play the MP anyway, but I think that no matter how good the actual game turns out to be, even if it was better than the hardcore PC crowd first believed, they will still shunt it. The hardcore crowd are really no different to console fanboys, they still moan, toss insults in, call everything crap, insult anyone with different opinions etc.AussieReaper wrote:

I'm only really in for MW2's SP even if the storyline is short, co-op should boost the play time for me though, and I like to play through games multiple times.
I don't know about you but it definitely is not worth a 1.5/10. That's just fucking retarded.

Check Modern Warfare 2
10,514 players online. On Steam and if those numbers in that screenshot further up in the thread is right. They got around 40 000+ pirates playing online.
Something tells me that boycott DID work and it worked GOOD. :3

It would seem it would be especially hard to go online what with all the steam + iwnet bullshit etc.. before if you had a pirate version you could play on pirate servers but this time, I doubt pirates can play online..?Zefar wrote:

I checked the most popular torrent which had quite large numbers but online play was not working for them.Mekstizzle wrote:

Well there is still this where Steam users need to wait two extra days to play it. IW probably fucked up release dates and such.
Although 1.5/10 rating is ridiculous, so is 9.5/10 (I think most people agree to that...)
I haven't even played the game, but the sheer fact that they completely consolized the game would be enough for me, were I a PC game reviewer, to give it no higher than an 85, even if it was the best consolized FPS I'd ever seen. This is saying to developers that they don't even have to try to make "PC games", and they will still get good PC game reviews.
I was really hoping at least some sources would have the balls to dock the game some points for blatantly shunning the PC crowd, but I guess in today's society hoping for any sort of journalistic integrity is asking a lot.
As someone who grew up playing id software and 3D Realms games, dedicated server support and stuff like that came as key milestones to the evolution of not only PC gaming, but gaming in general.
People that want to all of the sudden send us back to the dark ages of videogame technology simply to make it easier on their developers and wallets can fuck off and go to hell.

Lasting appeal, gameplay and presentation all got 8.5+
In each of those categories there is a "this was kinda good, but" no way any category with a but in it gets a 10 or a 9.5.
Really dissapointed in IGN. I liked to imagine they still had a little integrity, but giving a pretty generic FPS with a 5 hour SP mode a 10 for lasting appeal is just a lie.
