Just read an article on Gamespy about this.

From midnight tonight the supermarket will offer Infinity Ward's latest shooter for an astonishing 26GBP – a price well under half the 55GBP RRP.
While some sources indicate that this price cut will only last until the first batch of stock is sold, it's going to be interesting to see if other retail outlets jump on the bandwagon and try to price match.
So. Go cancel your pre-orders and head to Sainsburys .

I'm barely willing to slow down my internet connection to download this, let alone spend £26 on it.

Well this thread was obviously aimed at people who WERE intending to buy it and were going to spend more on it than this.

Hell i'm not going to buy it. But somebody is.

There is a mass hatred for the game and this is a PC game forum.

What the hell else did you expect?

Dude everyone knows if you work there you just take one out of the shipment as soon as it's unloaded from the truck. That is, if you want it.

No problem with buying it on consoles, it's business (read: suck) as usual.

If I had my way, nobody would buy it and then a humbled Activision would stop being so god damn arrogant and start making good decisions for a change.

However i'm not an idiot. Millions of people will buy it, it will make Activision untold amounts of money, and get near perfect review scores everywhere.

So with that in mind, if I can save a few BF2s-ers some money, who were going to buy it anyway but at a much higher price point, then i'm very happy to spread the news.

That was my intention.

So my step-brother got it a few hours ago for PS3. He only played the SP for a bit (it was a birthday present), I can conclude that the single player is just more CoD4. Exactly the same shit, different location.

The NVGs are much better than expected though.

I tested my NVG's to make sure they worked before they went back in the box for wrapping, was pleasantly surprised with the result (not just a torch beam and a green lens).

Here you go chaps. More bits and bobs.

Retailers around the country will open at midnight tonight in a bid to attract gamers desperate to get their hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – and the good news for consumers is that most will be offering big discounts.Buy it from PS3 PC XBox 360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Activision Although the recommended retail price for the Xbox and PS3 formats is £54.99, consumers will be able to get their hands on a copy for almost £30 less, and cost cutting by big supermarket chains means that Modern Warfare 2 will be cheaper on the high street than it is online.Sainsbury's has slashed the price to just £26 across all formats, while Tesco is offering the game for £25 to customers who buy another top 20 title for either console. Those who do not want another game will be charged £39.70.Both retailers will be offering the game from midnight at some stores. Tesco is selling it at all of its stores which are usually open round the clock, while midnight sales at Sainsbury's will be limited to five shops: those in Dulwich, Haringay, London Colney, Forest Side and Greenwich. Other branches will be selling the game later in the day.A spokeswoman for Sainsbury's said the retailer expected the game to be its biggest seller of the year, with 120,000 copies expected to be sold in store and a further 2,000 online. She added that the £26 price tag was not a limited offer.Asda is charging £32 for Xbox and PS3 formats and £32.71 for the PC version. It will have the game available from midnight at more than 300 stores. A spokesman said the retailer was expecting queues, with as many as 1,000 gamers expected to visit its Derby store, but he assured customers there was "lots of stock".Specialist retailer Game will be opening 342 stores at midnight to hand over precious copies of Modern Warfare 2 to customers who pre-order it before 5.30pm this evening. Gamestation, which is owned by Game, will open 250 outlets.A spokesman for Game said all of the stores would be decorated and many staff would be dressed up – "our staff are game

Wow it really didn't take long for other shops to see what Sainsburys was doing and follow suit. Well I mean obviously they'd do midnight launches anyway, but Tesco's £25 seems oddly close to Sainsburys price for it to be coincidence.

Also lol:

Asda is charging £32 for Xbox and PS3 formats and £32.71 for the PC version.
Asda you're doing it wrong.

Well i popped into Sainsburys this morning and bought the PS3 version for £26, i think we are giving it as an Xmas present.

I did laugh tho, the amount of middle aged men talking about how much they loved CoD4 and WaW and about going home to shoot some noobz etc etc... hilarious. Then there was the greasy bandits who look like they haven't left the house in about 6 months.

Sainsburys here even had a till for PS3 and a till for Xbox versions.

I was praying that someone was going to get to the till only to find they had sold out, i think it would have kicked off, BIG time

Oh and the fat little kid in line all hopped up on fizzy drinks, exactly the kind of little kid i hate to think i'm playing against online, i wanted to rage kick him right in the head.
