Game is amazing so far, kinda regret not starting as a mage though.
Oh my god. Same.

I hadn't actually taken command of Morrigan until one certain Demon mission... and oh my god, it's so much more fun as a mage. I think it's disappointing that Warriors have such a poor selection of attacks in comparison to mages. Mages fucking rock.

Oh well, it means I complete the game and then play it again.
Mage is fun, but I regret not having lockpick. Also, the AoE spells are massive and if you forget to click 'hold' your idiot party members will charge into it.
Once you get a party member who can pick locks you'll be glad you didn't. Also there is very little good stuff in locked chests, most of my good loot came form dead NPCs.

Also make sure you guys pick up the DLCs, some good stuff in them. Bioware are planning on releasing the things for the next year or two apparently. Hopefully there will be one that bumps up the level cap.

I think the next generation RPGs will be when your character actually talks. It's not very nice when he's just a silent guy

so the general feeling is that Mages are the better class to play? i started off with human warrior, i'm still kinda confused but i think thats due to not playing enough at the moment.

Well it probably depends. My warrior is a sword + shield build so he is meant to be a 100% tank. Ties everyone up, soaks up all the hits, but it's not very fun to play. In most battles I switch straight away to Morrigan and issue the occasional command to the my hero to make sure he's blocking the right enemies.

If you play dual wield / 2 handed though it might be different. Your damage output is much higher and you have access to AOE attacks so you feel a little more involved.

I always play Dual Wield - Swipe + Flurry  + Whirlwind give you the best chance to survive an onslaught of any kind of monsters. It's fast and ridiculously effective. Sometimes I use Punisher, but it's not that good.

Two handed is only good if you're fighting against a slower opponent than you.

Never use shield and sword, no point, not when I have Morrigan protecting me.

Found a serious bug, but don't know if it only applies to me: After a certain quest, where I must take a mage into my party for the battles (I had to kill her at the end, due to my decisions) - My other parties members have disappeared. I only have Morrigan and Alastair, and I cannot add any more. I had like 7 others (Mubari, some weird large guy, Leliana, Elven Assasin etc). And now I have none.

God this blows.

Many of the AU crew already know my woes regarding gaming. Caught between a shitty net connection (not paid for by me), a dodgy PC (not paid for by me) and my own stingy nature when it comes to buying shit for myself.

My older bro gifted Dragon Age to me on Steam last weekend.

20GB dl will take me ages due to a number of reasons.

My little bro has a HD in his PC smaller than some flash drives.

I'm ordering an e-sata drive. Probably buying a hard copy too.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Never played Baldur's Gate 2?

Honestly, the arse-kicking insane abilities of a high level warrior are a laugh.

Having a level 20 beserker take on a red dragon solo and kill it just for fun with your ridiculously optimised gear on him was a good laugh (Korgan + Crom Feyr + any excellent plate armour (at least +5, or with a -1 immunity to normal weapons) = unbeatable.

Sure, mages could stop time and do so much damage it can only be described as a localised nuclear explosion and shit but high level fighters in Baldur's Gate rocked. Wade into a veritable horde of enemies and chop them to pieces without taking bugger all damage.

Same with most classes though. Clerics could summon epic out of control demons and then make the party invisible to them. Thieves could get you into just about everything, and back stab for ridiculous amounts of damage. Monks could instant kill certain enemies, stun disable enemies, had massive armour/damage without having to wield anything (ultimate gear-independent class), could get you into things you weren't meant to be in (not as good at it as a thief though) and worked excellent for finding traps as normally they could dodge them and take no damage. Druids, especially shapeshifters, were truly awesome spellcasters combined with absolutely EPIC hand to hand abilities as a lycanthrop. Bards were the only kinda retarded class imo.

Fuck this. Ordering hard copy tomorrow methinks. Probs get a USB to store some files for another game on there then uninstall it so's I can play the game. Storing games on my phone makes it get all jammy and shit.

Lilacore.

Do it Graven. Get the talking sword and make the crazed murderer who talks to a hamster kill things with it.

DO IT.

P.S, to everybody having trouble grasping the combat think less FPS and more RTS. I don't know if it's like BG2's combat wtih the pause button but BG2's combat on higher difficulties was almost like chess.

Plan every spell and every move.

Anyone beat the dragon in Haven? It's completely optional and after getting my ass handed to me twice I'm actually considering skipping the bugger and coming back after I've levelled up.

@Flec yup it's very old school stuff. You're gonna love it.

I'm still quite behind in the game, had Morrigan with me for a little while and we are in the little town and i'm doing some quests, i'm really quite blown away tbh. I had an idea of what the game was about but it's so much more than what i expected.

I'm still playing the warrior, but he is a scrapper, Alistair tanks (kinda). I haven't really got to grips with the tactics system either

I haven't got far myself.  Family kinda puts a damper on my play time.  Just at the part after getting rescued by Morrigan's mom.  Just taking my sweet time going through all the dialog trees.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Taking on that first horned Ogre at the tower was epic.  About to get my ass torn to shreds, then my teammates Halo:ODST Chieftain ownage style rescue me.  Awesome!!!

The Joining.  Shit, talk about storytelling.

Dude, you haven't seen anything yet. Trick to that place is have both a rogue and a dual wielding Warrior + Alastair. Let them surround you and hit them with Dual Sweep (probably the most powerful attack you can grab) and then use the Mage to constantly heal you.

That level was an absolute joke in comparison to the Magi Tower.

Sorry for the confusion.  That first Ogre was easy to take down.  Just a few swings.  My point was the cut-scene.  When the ogre was down to minimal health, the game went to the Chieftain ODST cut-scene.    These kinds of events make the game awesome.  Explains the 20GB install.

Just started a human warrior. Fun as hell so far.

Pretty bad-ass when my character beheaded some guy, put her dual swords away, and casually strutted off.

Dwarf origin stories are very entertaining.

Commoner: Rising up from the ashes by accident.

Noble: Very, very epically thought out story of  dirty politics.
