'Lo all. Don't really visit this sub-forum very often but I'd very much like to enlist the help of one of the resident graphic-design gurus...

Thanks to Zimmer I now have a small personal-website that I'm in the process of setting up, working out and getting designed properly.

In the top-right corner you can see that there is a space for a 48x48 pixel avatar image. At the moment mine is set to any old thing, but I would very much like a sleek and minimal avatar to be designed to either a) fit the site's overall minimal design style or b) to suit the site's namesake, an album by Tim Hecker titled Harmony In Ultraviolet. If someone could chip in with a simple avatar design, it would help to put one of the finishing touches on my site.

Yaas Finny, that above is pretty much the reason why the small avatar needs to be replaced. Using the Kompakt Label symbol for my Steam in-game stuff and Last.fm personality is all fine, but for the website I feel I need something a little more custom and individualised . Hijacking someone elses design/creativity feels a little bit cheap!

He's ripped me one for using it. It's good for update's from things you actually care to know about. It's more like a news rss for me.

Twitter is lame when boring people tweet every fucking thing they do. I think Uzique has said the same thing only more Uzique-like.

Yeah Kmar, my stance on Twitter still remains... I use it as an opportunistic self-promotion tool and a desktop-friendly way of updating my Facebook status . As for the 'Dear Twitter-diary...' style of user - no thanks. I only use mine to post 'news' or 'announcements' as such, much in the same way you compared it to a form of RSS feed.

Thanks also for the heads-up about Wordpress spam. I do currently use the Akismet spam-catcher, and of course with my current status (being brand new; unlisted on search-engines; incomplete) I'm not really attracting enough traffic to lure in the spambots anyway .

Okay, as a more precise specification:

I would like an avatar that by default has a 48x48pixel dimension, which incorporates the theme of minimalism and 'ultraviolet' into a smart and sleek design. Taking the 'H' from the main title (the font-family is: Ariel, Verdana, Sans-Serif) I would like a simple, black square-avatar with the 'H' character the main theme. Other aspects (such as the ultraviolet colour theme) can be included, and the album-art is a great example of this colour spectrum and design style.

A possible feature that would be cool would be a gradient-reflect effect on the 'H' itself. Obviously this could extend the 48x48 dimensions into something more like 48x60, but that's no problem at all- if the avatar looks great, I'll fit the rest of the site's navigation frames and content around that. Should be really simple and easy to design - makes me wish I still had the basic grasps over Photoshop . Anyone that takes the effort to bang out this simple little icon will get props in the Footer of my site, with a link to their own portfolio/website (providing they have one of course!) Hugely appreciated, I really want this .
