In almost friggn thread it always completely goes off topic. The most common change in topic is from, lets say the "do you beleive in extra-terrestrials (or however you spell it)" posts are usually on topic. But after like the second page or so someone might say that the US army would pwn the aliens asses, then some Russian, German, English guy would say that their army would kill the aleins more effectivly, then the conversation will turn into some war about people and that the US tanks or Russian tanks or whatever suck balls. After a while it will somehow lose all contact with the original thread and talk about WWII or the Iraqi war. (I havent even read much of the extra-blahblah things I just used it as an example.) Eventually this starts to piss me off and nearly all posts in this segment will change. Do you think that people might just have narrow minds and only be arguementative, or that people that play war games like BF2 always have thoughts of wars engraved in their heads. (I dont want this thread to be like other threads, it can change a bit but please dont stray too much...)

- Why do almost all threads devolve into something different
LOL no shit that happens to pretty much every thread in this sub-forum. They either turn into:
a. My country's army roxors or
b. USA suxors
a. My country's army roxors or
b. USA suxors
I Like the "care bears" and they would pwn the aliens ass...... with love.
All I'm going to say is QFT.specops10-4 wrote:

The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

Had to edit this so it related to the initial question - it does.
We're all inteligent people who can bounce ideas of each other to create a metropolitan society where everyone is happy and accepted.
Just kidding. We're people who can't seem to stop the tide of bullshit leaking out of our mouths. Still achieves the same result though. Faster too.

I think it is only natural that a discussion that started over a specific topic might develop in different directions.
People might pick up on a specific argument or point made and continue from there, or concentrate on one specific element in the discussion.
nothing we can do. well, we could delete all posts that are off-topic, but where do you draw the line ?
I think we can give people a little freedom here, provided the posts stays serious and doesn't just consist of mindless spam...

We can't stay on topic due to the unreal amount of flames posted after someone gets pissy because they don't agree with something. Rather than moving on and posting somewhere else, they have to make thier two cent flame like someone gives a shit...therefore ruining the topic of the origional poster.specops10-4 wrote:

Edit: The bad part is, this flame problem exists in the Debate and Serious Talk section where it shouldn't.

the flame problem exists especially here, since we are discussing topics that are dear to a lot of people. Things that stir up emotions. But I really don't think it is that bad.
God-dammit! This thread is George Bush's fault!!
I don't even watch the news or read the paper anymore, I just come here
Hmm, do you think that if everyone who posted here were to meet in RL for a discussion it'd end up in a giant brawl?

The moderators DO NOT KNOW how to moderate a forum. They are neophytes - pure & simple.
Considering the age and mindset of (the majority of) posters on this forum, it should be obvious that they are ALL new to forums. Internet forums have been around for a long time; USNET, PHILO., TECHNO., ETC.
And I have been a member of many others (other than this one) for more than 10 years.
A forum that is moderated properly will actually contain both STYLE & SUBSTANCE.
The moderators need to delete pointless post regularly.
The moderators need to close threads more often and even DELETE them.
The moderators need to invoke temporary BANS more often - than they do.
The moderators need to make a declaration of these more stringent rules.
The moderators need to allow a free-for-all forum section - sure - but debate & serious talk will never elevate beyond the utterly BASE if they allow a free-for-all in every (forum) section (in particular - this one).

We'd probably all sit round and not talk about much stuff, then BF2 would come up and we'd all get into a brawl over AA, base camping etcRygar wrote:

I'm sorry, but if I tried to do that, I would have to quit my job and have no RL outside of these forums. My social life would deteriorate into non-existance, and my body would suffer badly as a result of sitting in front of my monitor too long.topal63 wrote:

In the end, it would seriously damage my mental and physical health and probably lead into suicide.
In short, I am not doing it.
Maybe these forums are not moderated as perfectly as the Idon'tknowhowmanyforums you have been part of in the last ten years, but I do believe they are moderated as good as possible under the given cirumstances.
After all, we all have a life outside these realms.
B. Schuss?!!??! Whaddya mean? Are you saying Mods/Admins aren't perfect? That's it, I've had enough.
