You can discard 300'ish of those hours as useless pub-nub classes with no use in a proper team at all (Spy, Engi)... then you have 212 hours as a sniper- sniping what? Pub players probably on 24/7 2Fort and Goldrush, okay. That leaves you with a modest 90 hours as Soldier (useful in all terms), 80 hours as Pyro (err, ok) and 150-something hours with pretty useful team classes.

Deflated sense of 'achievement' yet? You could have spent those 1,000 hours becoming actually good at the game instead of indulging in useless pub-hero activities and lonewolf solo play. D'oh!
I had fun, that's all I care about.

Fuck off, "twat".
Haha "fun" argument again: see above, it fails majorly.

Miggle PUG's aren't really matches, they're just properly-balanced public games.

By the way Defcon, my post was tongue-in-cheek because you were 'flaunting' your figures. It was fun to deconstruct the shittiness of your stats.
As much fun as it is to read your posts and laugh at how pathetic you are?

You're not doing much against the "The majority of people who take videogames too seriously are ignorant dickwads" argument.

Now go ahead and throw your walls of text at me, explaining how much better you are than us in life, because you play in less pubs than we do.

Err what? I play all classes... haha.

My stats have been reset so maybe you're missing out on something. All of my league experience and 2 seasons were spent playing Medic - the keystone of every team, that gels all the other classes together, calls the pushes/defenses, and manages the entire team's actions. I know how to play every class to a high level and don't need 100hours in fucking 24/7 Dustbowl servers to validate that . It's funny how you think meaningless Steam Community stats accumulated playing with and against shit players makes you think you're more well-rounded, compared to my exposure and cooperation with some of the top players in the EU.
I have more fun than you.

I win.
You really don't; have fun raging at widespread incompetence and being dissatisfied with easy and meaningless steamrolls... I enjoy competitive TF2 not for any form of 'ego', I enjoy it because the quality of gameplay and the challenge is more exhilarating. It's more 'fun' to beat a well-accomplished team and it gives more of a virtual adrenaline-rush to be up against someone that's good, instead of yawning as you stroll through an average normal server killing the swarms of idiots that only recently picked up the game on the last (frequent) free-weekend. Keep telling yourself that though, fun isn't really quantifiable and if I have enough of it doing what I do in order to play the game for 1000+ hours, then I must be doing something right for myself, no?
I understand that you are a god, and that we must all worship you, but when you play in leagues there is no focus on having fun, it's win or you suck. Not only that but playing as the classes who aren't good in the 6v6 fail battle is very fun. As are playing on the maps that the leagues ban, and using the weapons they ban also. You are trying to tell me that playing a stripped down version of a game, were the only goal is to win is more fun than just playing it?

Yeah, I have more fun than you.

I think the "fun" argument fails hard on both sides, obviously yoozeegoo finds competitive play fun, while Docta and I find pubbing fun and lulzy. I generally don't play seriously, I try to make fun of other players or get into conversations with them, I find the socialization aspect of the game fun. Yoozeegoo and other pros enjoy the competition and stress that comes with league play, if people didn't find it fun then there wouldn't be leagues.

"Fun" is an opinion, and our opinions differ.

Exactly, "fun" is entirely subjective and a matter of opinion. I play pubs just as often lately as I play anything else, and I find it fun for what it is. The ironic thing about all this is that you're all telling me how ego-driven I am and rah-rah-rah, just because I stepped on your toes because I talked smack about your all-so-important Steam stats for shits'n'giggles. How does that work? I was just being provocative (and was AWM'd for it as well, you whiners) and all of a sudden a huge bunch of super-serious and rather offended 'casual gamers' come out of the woodwork to tell me how much of a cock I am. Hahaha.

Docta your argument about a 'stripped down game' doesn't really work - every FPS game ever adopted by leagues has had rulesets instated and changes made to it in order to try and make it 'balanced' and accessible to all. It's not about stripping down the game and taking out the fun, it's about adapting a game to make it suitable for a style of play where the winning-outcome is literally determined only be a team's skill and ability.

I too, think I am highly skilled for playing a cartoon first person shooter competitively. As you can see here, this black Scotsman with a eye patch certainly is an example of how seriously this game should be taken.

Completely aside from my own view(s), that's the dumbest fucking argument ever.

Are you saying that, in comparison, because CoD4 has 'gritty' grainy graphics and a realistic setting, it's more suitable for comp. play?

It has a stylistic design that involves humour... yes, no doubt.

I think the huge league and competitive scene is kind of a statement though: the aesthetic and graphical design of a game is a superficiality. Team Fortress has always been a game franchise with a 'quirky' setting but one of the best and most unique team-based modes of gameplay ever. That's why it each version of the game has been rapturously successful on leagues and with competitive communities. Your farcical point about the fact the game has a comic-style doesn't really state anything, other than that you're a dumbass that judges games on mere design superficialities alone rather than gameplay.

So I heard Crysis is the greatest game ever created, amirite?

What's "quirky" about it. This game is Serious! In the heat of battle, when I am playing for money, there is only one word on the battlefield. That word, is maggot. In my Seriously Competitive VideoGames, there should always be automated turrets that function on hitscan. Competitive PC Gaming: BONK!

Huh I'm just saying that for TF2 I got nothing against competitive play in general it's just I don't think TF2 fits competitive play because it doesn't take itself seriously so why should anyone else.

What you just said is that if Id were to update Quake 3 so all the textures, models, and weapon skins were somehow from Hello Kitty!, and claimed that they think nobody should take Quake 3 seriously, Q3's competitive gameplay would suck.

Or imagine if you were to replace football players with TF2-like characters, and make the stadiums TF2-styled. Would that mean that nobody should take it serious and that every league, tournament and cup in the world should just go away?

You say it like it's only the visual style and not that the game has critical hits, auto targeting sentries and that competitive play makes a third of the classes redundant. About the Q3 example, if you want to play it competitively go ahead, but why would you be proud of that?

Are you actually trying to say that because TF2 has crits (that can be turned off), sentries (that aren't used), and a few classes that are rarely seen outside of pubs (BF2 inf used one class out of the 7), competitive TF2 should not be taken seriously?

No I'm saying that when you have a game built from the ground up for public play which requires the game to limit a fair portion to enjoy itself for competitive play, you can't take it seriously. The visual style is the icing on the cake. As for BF2's inf gameplay, that's because you're playing inf which the game wasn't built for. At least it's a bit more shameless in the "we aren't using any class but medic" sort of way.

removing crits and choosing to play a preferred class is a large portion of the game

^ Read that.

Also read my earlier comment: every single FPS game that has EVER been adopted by league-communities has had to be altered, balanced and redefined slightly to create a 'level playing field' where everyone has an equal chance. Lucien's example of BF2 is one: same example with the class-favouring. Call of Duty and Counter Strike are two other hugely popular competitive FPS games that both have league-restrictions and 'pro mods'.

Your argument is flawed; TF2 was not built "ground up" for public play. TFC and TF2 have always been regarded in first-person shooter games as the cream of the bunch for teambased shooters-- massively wellknown. Public play is so drastically different to competitive play, but the magic of the game is that it's essentially still the same thing, just different-types of player. Competitive TF2 really doesn't 'restrict' much in any drastic way, and you can't comment on it so disdainfully until you actually fucking try it.
