Apparently there is a CS4 (news to me)

Does anyone have experience with the new CS package? Preferably on Photoshop and Illustrator? Are there any cool new functions that are actually useful?

Been using it for awhile now, photoshop mostly.

It has a few new tools but the best part of the newest version is the performance improvements. It also supports open gl now which means smoother scrolling (no jagged edges at odd zoom incrementals).

Sweet. I'll trial version it for the time being to see if it is worth the upgrade

I dont think its worth it...Unless you professionally know all previous versions. All futures.

Depends on your upgrade cost. Photographer, probably yes. I play graphic artist for fun, probably no.
