im not too sure what it is, is it the british empire thing, because the games seem to have all the once or still british colonies. anyone care to tell me please, and also the queen still own canada and austraila and such, i just want this all to be cleared up..thanx
The commonwealth are all the countries that have the westminster system, wherein there is a prime minister, but the british queen is still the head of state. these are all of the countries that were once under the control of the british empire. so another, just as accurate name for the games would be 'the british imperialist games'.
In sympathy for all the residents of the city that is currently hosting the games (read: having it's traffic, public transport, media etc etc raped by this meaningless fucking rubbish), I would just like to say:
FUCK THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES.
The end, thank you.

hahaha no the queen doesnt owned Canada and Australia anymore, Canada and Australia have there independance for a long time, We just have a gouvernor that represent the country to the Queen that is actually useless, Its more for the show off then anything else really.
I think the Queen dont have really any power anymore in the UK, its more of a symbol then anything else.

Wow. Someone's a strong republican...

i seriously believed i had stepped into a PKD'esque parallel universe when the referendum finally came around, and the 'no' vote won out.

That's because no-one could agree on what the republic's structure.

Queen Lizzie is a sexy lady and we'd all love to give her a good rogering, but she can't tell New Zealand to do anything. Its all for formalities.
The queen has no power over us, the Govener General has only used his power to dissolve parliment ONCE because it was going to hell in shouting matches, and all he does now is sign bills. If we want a bill passed, he signs it. Basically, the queen is there still because all the old people voted no......but now there dead....hehehe. As has been said, its all for formalities.
agree. Aus can leave the commonwealth anytime it wants... it was tried in 1999 but the proposul was rejectedHawk390 wrote:

Hold on.
The main reason the 'Yes' vote lost is becuase nobody could agree on the way the republic would be set up.
Which means there was a lot of people who wanted a republic but voted 'No' because the mdoel was bad (parliament elects the president)
