Does anyone have this game?

Im a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, rented this one (since my ps2 is kinda broked...rented to see if it works and it does! woot) and i played it, and i have to say it rocks

the fighting is awesome on it, real time now, instead of the older wait, turn based system, and the graphics are great too on the vids.

Im not too far in, so anyone who has it, please dont spoil anything!

I heard from my friends that the battle system is new. That's gay. The thing that made Final Fantasy was it's battle system, and now they have gone and changed it...

In my opinion, I would have been happy with another Final Fantasy, same game system as the others, but just a different story. It's what they've been doing since like... FFI, so why do they have to change now?

I dont know why they changed it, at first i was in the same boat as you, wasnt impressed that the battle system had changed (Its a lot like FFXI if you ever played that? The online one)

But after a few goes, i got used to it and it rocks, its a free movement kinda thing, but it still has the wait untill you can attacknd cast magic (magic has a charge time, as do skills, not like the older ones where if its your go, you go straight away)

I love it though

My friends said something about Gambits, and that when you have a few of them set up, you don't need to do anything in a fight.

What kind of gameplay is that? Sounds really shit to me. I won't be buying this game, at most I'll rent or borrow it.

Yeah gambits make some of the fights really easy...but thats not to say you dont need to think in the fights, gambits are used so that the characters you arent currently controlling dont just stand there aimlessly

You can only have so many gambits anyway, so you need to still assign commands, as gambits are only set to do certain things at certain times... like, when an ally goes below 50% hp, a person throws that ally a potion, they dont make it so they do absolutely everything for you

Just because of the there's some new changes doesn't make it shit, try playing it before you judge it.  Look at the reviews, they're all stellar.

own it and I can comfortably say that it's easily one of (if not) the best FFs in the series.

The battle system is leaps and bound better that the tried turn based system and the story line makes you feel like you're actually part of a massive conflict.

Changes is what makes Final Fantasy...Final Fantasy.  Every game is different.  In the earlier games, it was simple turn-based fighting with simple hp and mp.  If you had the Mp, u could cast the spell.  Then they integrated a "Job" system (which I loved...especially Tactics).  Materia was used for certain things in 7, and u had to draw magic from monsters and certain places so you could either use that magic, or use it for somethin else (FF8).
True, changing the battle system is huge...but it really is cool.  for those who don't know, the game is played like an MMORPG, ie. EQ, DAoC, Guild Wars...and so on.  You see a mob, u kill it, no wait.  You kill a few of the same mob in a row, u get bonues, and if you get higher "chains" your chances for unique items really rises.
I'm about 50 hours into the game, love it, but put it on hold since I got into the Lord of the Rings Online closed beta...but I plan to play this weekend.  The plot is nice, but with some interestingly long strange unpronounceable names, and twists, it is very easy to lose the plot.  That is my ONLY problem with the game.
If you are a fan of FF, you have to try it, you won't be disappointed.
