1. I agree, but then again if you actually are playing properly it should be using all your focus and you wont even care about the music.

2. Graphics arent great and the buildings are ramable etc, if they were you would need an even more powerful computer. All of the bullets in this game are calculated real time... that uses alot of power.

3. This already has far more commands than anyother RTS out there, you cant expect them to add everything ever, otherwise what would RTS games evolve to? The interface is too large.

4. See 2.

5. This is the next game from Chris Talyor... he made the most customised RTS ever. There is an editor for this and it can be dled. People already made maps in the beta..
1. If everything's in order, then you can pretty much sit on your thumbs and watch a battle pan out as per your orders. In times like these, you tend to notice details like...'oh, this song has been playing for the past hour.'

2. I once altered the code of QBasic's old banana-chucking game for 1000 banana objects being launched at once. My 486 PC didn't have a problem calculating all the hits...and the skyscrapers were deformable. No, what seems to use the most power in this game isn't the projectiles, but the unit pathing along uneven terrain of these gargantuan maps.

So far, I haven't seen civilians running around in panic like in C&C:G. Pity.

3. Yes, but if you're going to tell people via interview that you're adding pretty much every sort of command seen in other RTS's, then add it. I would love to be able to grab one set of bombers and tell them to hit units, then grab another set and tell them to prefer blowing up buildings buildings. That alone is pretty basic. And even oldies like 'Star Trek Armada' had 'return & repair,' 'decommission' and 'alert stages' functions. 'Armada' and 'Age of Empires' also had formation and attack pattern presets. 'Supreme Commander's' automatics are still pretty basic and I do lose precious moments micromanaging formations. I'm of the opinion that more of this sort of functionality should be present especially because of the overwhelming number of units under your command

Also, land/air/sea toggles for the military overlay would be neat, so you can see what's covered. Hard to distinguish between a thousand circles.

4. Already said that this wasn't the game's fault, but I can still say that it's a pity that most of my friends won't be able to run it, even on bottom-of-the-barrel detail. If I was rich, I'd buy a new PC for them all, but as it is...

5. Good to know that there's one online. Haven't had a chance to look for it yet, which is why I couldn't exactly complain there.

---

That being said, the game did hit a home run, but there's still room for improvement.

why is everyone so loving of the monkeylord?
a had a CZAR (or whatever the hell the aeon saucer is called) take one out with a shot and a half (yes i know it has no AA) but i then had it proceed to wipe out my opponent with ease despite all the AA they had, it didn't come out of it too well but it did come out of it

sidenote: you know the poster that you get with the case? Is anyone elses in French?

All of the experimental units have their weak points. The Monkeylord spiderbot (which does have AA) is especially vulnerable to air attack. The CZAR flying fortress is easily taken down by AA or gunships or interceptors (can be a good idea to fill it with interceptors for just such eventualities).
The great thing about a number of the experimental units; the spiderbot, the collosus and the flying fortress is their ability to tear through virtually any ground defences effortlessly.

unnamednewbie13 the key code for units is actually very easy to learn, ships are sideways D's land are diamonds, air are triangles. The AA units are a semicirlce, Artillery is a dot, main battle units eg tanks are + etc etc. Very easy to oversee units from zoomed out if you learn the code.

I know they are. I do most of my ordering around fully zoomed out. I meant that the range indicators on the military overlay button (the one that gives you all the red radius indicators) are very messy, as there's no way to select what kind of ranges you wish to view.

A pull-out sub menu under military would be cool with toggles for:

Fixed Emplacement Coverage
Mobile Coverage
Tier 1 Coverage
Tier 2 Coverage
Tier 3 Coverage
Underwater Coverage
Surface Coverage
Air Coverage

As it is, turning on the military overlay with around 800 units under your command gives you a pretty garbled mess.

Haven't registered yet. Just got to mission 4 on UEF (yeah, I wanted to play Cybran, but figured I'd pan from left to right on the armies list). Mission 3 was great. Stole an Aeon engineer and built me some floating shield generators out of one of their factories. Had 20 of those buggers escorting my fleet, and only lost 4 units in the whole map. Only normal mode, though.

I know what you mean, but despite that it still seems like quite a lot of the experimental units are greater than the monkeylord (the AA really sucks...) in the amount of damage they can cause before being destroyed, the only thing the monkeylord seems to have is that it can be built quickly
i even found a way to stop a monkeylord, (though a smart human player will get out of this easily a unnatentive one or a computer player won't) it seems that when they approach from water monkeylords can get jammed under docks, and then pwned by torpedoes, so if your quick have EMP units bombard the area the monkeylord will surface and have an engineer build a dock on top of it, it gets stuck unable to surface or fire anything but those kinda weak torpedoes though it can reverse, it does rely on you being quick with the EMP units but think about the amount of mass and energy you save not having to replace the units it destroys :-p

If you manage to get some units behind the spiderbot, its lazer cant do crap against it. Either do that or bomb it to hell with bombers and gunships.

A half a dozen T3 bombers can take one out in short order.

Completed the UEF campaign. First half of the ending was cool enough, second half was campier than Inspector Gadget. Could've used more explosions for such a long build-up in that last mission.

In case you're wondering, the campaigns aren't sequential, as was StarCraft (continuing storyline). The side you choose is the one you'll take to absolute victory. Opening and ending cinematics are present, as well as in-game animated heads ala StarCraft.

Level 6, UEF, Hawaii, Earth. Spacebar+mouse move.

edit: One question...got to the end of one mission, all the enemy commander's stuff is gone...sonar, radar, both. So tell me, how the hell was he bloody tracking my commander underwater (or knew where i was in the first place). I had to run around the map a couple times, tangling him up behind walls before it was safe to detonate him. Bug, anyone?

In response to one of the previous posts, I believe the Monkeylord deserves more torpedo tubes. But then you'd have to give the UEF's submersible carrier cruise missiles to compensate.

The Atlantis is sweet. Already has 4 rapid fire torps. One battleship will beat a MonkeyLord if you find it underwater. Just need a few extra torps from something else.

The Atlantis kills ANYTHING in the water 1v1 apart from the Tempest, tears air units to shreds, and is the cheapest experimental unit.

On a side note it can also carry and refuel a shitload of planes, but nobody cares about that .

Hey everyone, care to help me out? I need a decent game to last me until Northern Strike and C n C 3. I've played the demo of this and I'm lucky enough for it to run well, but i have a very high spec pc and its still not crystal. To me the game just seems like a ramped up version of Total Annihilation and I'm worried that if i buy the game, I'll get bored to easy. The campaign looked suspect too, I'm really looking for a indepth review from you guys that'll help me decide whether to buy it. Karma for any really good reviews .

Many thanks all! Peace.

This game isnt about single player gameplay. Once you play it online you will never look back, im currently playing a few people over my uni network as they restrict our internet connections here. My computer can play it on high graphics until there are about 1000 units in game.

Trouble is, on the demo, I was running it on high, and turning the graphics down didn't increase FPS at all. How can I make this game run better? I have 2gb ram, dual core , 256 video card etc, surely it should run properly.

My shorthand review is that if you like the RTS genre at all and have the specs to run Supreme Commander, then you'll get this game. It's missing some of the control functions of other RTS titles, and its tilt camera only lasts as long as you hold the spacebar down, but it's good. Single player campaigns seem to be six maps per faction, but each one is long-lasting. Learning curve dependent on whether or not you watch the advanced tutorials.

I can't wait to see some of the mods for this. A decent Star Wars one would render Empire at War obsolete.

newbie... press ctrl+v, hold space, move the camera, release space, press ctrl+v again.

Your view is now locked to that angle.

This RTS has everything any RTS has ever had and more, all you need to do is learn them, there are too many to have buttons for each one, this game requires a LOT of hotkeys.

I played a little skirmish with UEF against UEF on easy, I send 20 Level 3 Assault bots in to their base and the stupid AI nuked his own base and i didnt even build my battle fortress yet

Iam now on Aeon storyline and omg their spaceship pwns lol and then the cyborg i faced at the end of cybran storyline -.- , though the spiderbots >UEF and thankfully UEF nuked an Aeon stronghold who had no defence systems lol
