I think that Battlefield 2142 is a great game if you look at it from the point of view of the storyline and whatnot, but the graphics and everything else are real bad.  Honestly, when I saw the video of it at E3, the game looked and was just in general so much better than it was in the release, here's some reasons:

Titan Mode HUD.  In the alpha, the titan mode HUD looked very cool.  It had two bars that went down as the titan shields went down, and so on.  The new one they added is too cartoony and stupid, and I don't see at all why they changed it.  Also, the little things on the minimap looked cooler

Titans.  In the alpha, there were no fancy permanent shields over the hangar, and they were also lower, and they could drop Battlewalkers like Britany Spears drops babies.

Missile Silos.  The missile silos looked cooler in the alpha.

That clicky noise.  If you notice in the overcom things, it sounds like "click The enemy has taken silo 4. click"

Other game modes.  The guy said in the video that there would be other game modes and things like that, such as CTF.

I can think of all sorts of ways that Battlefield 2142 could have been a lot better, besides the graphics and adding the things I mentioned.  Some of them include being able to bring down the hull integrity with conventional weapons, such as the missiles on a gunship or something.  It would also be nice if they added the Union of African States, mentioned in one map description I believe, as a playable team.

Also, one thing that was lost in the current release is armor-piercing bullets.  In the video, it can be clearly seen that the guy could fend off a gunship with an assault rifle.  The one thing though that would top it all is a singleplayer game.  Battlefield 2142 has such a rich storyline to it, and that first trailer made me hope there would be a singleplayer and everything.  That trailer is just so cinematic and everything.

It sent chills down my spine at the end when the narrorator said: "The battle for earth...had begun."

Looks like it's split 50/50, anyone voting mind posting their whys or general opinions?

I think 2142 is good enough as it is.  People didn't like it because BF2 was just as good.  But now they're both dying, so a new and improved version couldn't hurt.  I'd rather see a redone BF2 instead though.

QFT.  I'm anticipating the game of the year if they don't fuck it up with ads and nerfed weapons.

There are a few new near future FPS coming out, like Frontlines. So go buy them.

Otherwise, wait until BF3 comes out.

Some games just don't quite deliver. We all just have to move on.

I think EA's ignoring 2142. Never happened in their book. Battlefield 3 is their top priority, and both BF2 and BF2142 fans will probably see the light.

I agree that BF3 will be godly, the Frostbite engine is sweet.  That's why they should make a Battlefield 2142 2 or something.  Also, one thing that makes 2142 cool is it isn't unrealistic, there are no laser guns or aliens.

I see your point unless you waisted your money once but you won't waist your money again because it could be a good game.

I believe ea and dice are making bf3 to make up for the mistakes they did for bf2, I do hope they have the kit customizing or that will screw up my modding plans.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

The only problem is the modern setting.  Unless they come up with a cool setting it will be dumb.

I'd like to see a game set somewhere in Russia or in the former Yugoslavia area.

I guess that's what mods are for though!

They did that so the enemy wouldn't steal your team's aircraft which I think was a good move. Though annoying and stupid that you die when you drop pod on the shield.

If you don't want somebody to steal aircraft, then make sure somebody is there to stop them.  This brings me to something that should be in a game: animations.  For example, if somebody enters a vehicle, it shows them actually going through the actions to get inside the vehicle, or perhaps you can hijack vehicles like in Mercenaries 2 where there's a chance of you not hijacking a specific vehicle.

I've always wondered how the heck you get in a Mech to begin with.

You see, the game expects everybody to not have teamwork in the way that all the weapons are equalized and all sorts of other things.  For example, one team has no advantage over the other, except Port Bavaria though, where you can easily fend off the PAC with teamwork from the begining.

I actually liked it as it is. More balanced and less buggy than BF2, with some nice features. No need to be redone, and I think it is fine as is. Just move on to their next game and hope it isn't rushed and receives decent post release support.

BF2142 should have taken more time to develop. it should taken an additional year. now a game that had soo much potential to fix all the damages that BF2 caused the community, just went down the toilet. if bf2142 was properly done, i would have played it.

specialistx2324 I don't get why you quoted my post and said nothing else.

I'd like to see it expanded a little bit, BF2142.  Like maybe some battles in North America.  I thought there would have been a booster pack or something.  In the files, there were untextures objects under files "san francisco," "route 66," and "new york."  It would have been cool to have a futuristic ice-invaded New York City.  The thing is though that, as evident by some file names, the European Union used to be the United States.

I like how weapons descriptions and everything are detailed.  Some things in it don't go into too much detail.  For example, there are signs and things for some sort of company, it has it's emblem on those cars and whatnot that are in the streets.  I can't find a picture but I will post it if I find it.

Battlefield 2142 is fine the way it is.  Mostly everyone who has gone from BF2 to BF2142 complain about how everything sucks.  The thing that "sucks" to them is the fact that there is no one vehicle in the game that dominates everything else.  No more jet whoring, tank whoring, anything like that.

Thats why BF2142 is superior to BF2.

The only thing that would have made it more interesting are lasers.  Laser beams shooting off everywhere would have looked awesome.

It's not realistic.  I like how down to earth BF2142's perception of the future is.

I hate how all the weapons are equalized and both teams are equalized in so many ways.  For example, what would make Belgrade cool is if the PAC had a base to the east of the map, where that monorail is, and the EU had all the city CPs.  The PAC would have a "V-shaped formation of T-39 Bogatyr battle walkers", while the EU would have a lot of those stationary rail guns and other defenses.

The game takes away very practical ideas for the idea of fairness, as if people who play it are morons.  For example, there's no way to deflect the missiles in Titan mode, and also, when I fire a bunch of fucking missiles from a Talon or Doragon at a titan the hull integrity would not go down.  Also, here's something that makes sense: If an EMP missile will bring down the power of the shields, then wouldn't it make sense for an EMP blast thingie to temporarily disable the shields?  That seems like a better idea for titan mode:

EMP missiles bring down shield integrity.  When the shields are disabled, the enemy team has a chance to invade the titan before the shield generator can regain enough energy for the shields to re-activate.  Someone on the enemy team can find the shield generator inside the titan, and destroy it, permanently destroying the shields until someone repairs it, so either team must leave a squad to protect their interests.

I'm definately going to write a fanfiction.  Also, it would be cool to be able to damage the engines, and the titan can crash or something.

I like those ideas.  I agree that there should be a way to repair the shields, deflect titan missles, and a way to temporarily disable the titan shields.

They should have made the maps better and the ranks take longer. Berlin and Gibraltar were trash and it should have taken 200 hours to reach Brig-Gen not 120.
