Not sure if this has any gameplay consequences but imagine if you could be out of range of turrets because of z axis placement
Um...

Star Trek Armada had that. Heck, Ascendancy had that.

Yes I know. Point is did you know this game had it? Someone earlier in the thread said battles were in 2D, now we know otherwise

Tbh, sometimes your ships themselves maneuver in the Z-axis, you just can't move them like that (though apparently now you can).

When you have 30 Disciples, you tend to notice that 3rd axis.

Sounds like my first 3-4 single player games. Was absolutely clueless. Focused (a bit too much) on Research; became the number 1 Empire for research advancement, but ended up only having 3 planets... which were all soon trumped by various foes and pirate raids. I was poor, broke, out of resources... yet somehow highly developed. The 3 planets I owned could produce every technology/type of fighter, yet I just couldn't muster the Metal/Crystal/Credit to produce a large enough fleet to expand anywhere. Very frustrating striking a balance between rapid-expansion (using scouts and light frigates etc. to populate and take as many areas as you can early in the game before other enemies get there), and thorough development (becoming advanced enough to trump your enemies technologically and fleet-wise).

Still, interesting and pretty gripping! If the single-player was a straight-forward affair I don't think I would play it for very long. Especially without any sort of storyline or Campaign mode. Because the game isn't distributed over here in Europe- I don't have an 'Internet working' copy (shall we say)-- so for now I'm just enjoying the epic-length of the single player scenarios.

Looks a lot like Eve Online, except the planets are actually good for way more than just their moons.

To be honest Eve got very boring quickly, considering you need to wait in real time for skills(seriously you have to wait days, not like 6 hours of grinding, nothing you can really do), but it was intresting, but I refuse to pay for it.

Anyways, never realized you could move in a third axis, played all the tuts and never sw a mention of that, not that its would actually help me at all, but eh.  My first and only game(got wiped out in format ) I had most of my galaxy and part of another one, me and an AI completely wipied out two other cpus, I was already theleader of aspects(economy, military and empire) and then the bastard turned on me.  His fleet was larger then mine though, and he was tearing me slowly to pieces with all the reinforcements. Wonder what owuld have happened .

Game is pretty easy to learn if you have experience with the civilization games, or the companys other game, Galatic Civilization, or whatever its called.  One tip I can offer is snatch planets as quick as you can, and try to get on everyones good side, then build your fleet up, but dont commit to any battles you don't need to.  Then once at a good size start searching for the weakest enemy you can find and start stealing territory.  The more resources flowing in, the faster you can expand, and the more you can crush.

Shit guise, I need some help. For some reason, about 2 minutes into the game, I sent out a scout and found a planet that had 2 capital ships. Two. In Two minutes. How is that even possible? Should I not spend so much on research or summat?

Likly Pirates, pirates will be on most of the planets you'll find scattered around you, doesnt take much more then your own capital ship and afew supporting ships to smash them and take the planet.

That's my technique also .

Mainly because whenever the pirates do choose to nicely ransack one of my asteroids / planets, they always seem to arrive in such formidable numbers. Never have I been able to realistically fend them off with the immediate military power and resources I have available. If I construct or send a large fleet from another area of the galaxy... it's always far too late for my poor little planet .

Btw a really good map is called "Gateway" its on medium maps. Really fun. You all start in one star system and theres another one you can conquer. I took it and my 2 allies died, so its me vs 3 now but they can only attack me through gateway. Thus I just own their fleets as soon as they appear. Think ive killed 30-40 capital ships now

See, I own most of the planets around the pirate base. Since I have massive amounts of credits, I just put a bounty on my enemy to provoke the pirate attack. However, since the shortest route to their planets is right through two of my systems (which just happen to have 4 capital ships stationed between them ), I get lotsa of free experience, without them focusing their attack on me (they are just passing through, after all).
