I thought it would be good, but not only do you have crap allies, crap animation, crap flying, crap guns, but the crap enemies (also plagued with crap AI) have crap guns that fire crappy heatseeking bullets.

It's crap, try the demo.

Oh and the missions are crap. After repelling a tank assault, the game left me with nothing to do, except go the retreat point and have a fail mark next to my name..... turned out a crap tank was titting around in the cuty and had got stuck on a wall, how crap is that?

the demo does not do it justice. it is an amazing game. once you get into it very steep learning cerv . once you get the buttons down its awesome. Just play COOP and Evolution RED/BLUE V2. THE DEMO IS NOTHING LIKE ACTUAL GAME PLAY. There is a load of team work, in evo after you clear and defend the first 3 cities people will have the points to fly black hawks little birds and AH-6 Scout gunships. So basically you will have people Flying "Air Taxi" and ferrying people from base to city and city to base for medical. in game(wile playing multiplay Evolution) you can do missions that give you massive points Like Combat parole, Combat search and rescues, Land parole,  water patrol, Ambush Enemy convoy, Destroy enemy armor, Defend Fire base. Its all quite fun once you get the hang of it and once you can get an M16A4 acog its loads of fun. Some of the earlier weapons are: M16a2 Iron sight,M16a4 iron sights, Mp5,M9, M136launcher(AT4). then at corporal:  M16A4 acog, M16a2 M203, M240, M4 Iron Sights....Sergent: M24, M16a4 Acog M203, M16a4 M203, M4 Aim point, M4 A1.....Lieutenant: M249saw,SPR, M4 silenced, M4 acog GL... any way you get the point new weapons after every 10-15 kills so its pretty sweet(thows aren't all the guns just the ones I can remember). Its an awesome game lots of team work very little n00bing around, Just get 1.09 patch and your set to go.

Some addons/mods are really great.
The MARPAT addon and the Apache addon are really nice.
Theres also a BHD mod(in the making) and a Vietnam War mod.

You can also create your own mission. Very hard to get used to though.

Agreed. I've played it and gotten used to it at a friend's house after much convincing on his part. Unfortunately, I don't like the choppiness of the controls and player movement. It is in areas like interface where arcade flexibility is more important to focus on than absolute realism. The game itself has potential if they could just get rid of Tron-like zig-zagging.

We'll see what happens with ArmA 2, but with the company's history, I doubt they'll change.

I loved Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis + Red hammer + Resistance. They were all fantastic when fully patched up and with the FFUR2007 mod installed.

Armed Assault is just damn broken, when it works it's great but that will almost never happen.

Get Flashpoint instead.

I was thoroughly disappointed with it! The lack of decent graphics and poor face texturing made it look tacky to me, and I couldn't even get into the gameplay much.

For those who have "heard" Armed Assault was not a good game and believed it, should try it for themselves.  Especially with the 1.09 patch about to be released.  This patch has made ArmA like a new game.  Slow frame rates, gone.  Fog limiting visibility, gone.  Lots of little annoying bugs, check... gone!  The game feels much more solid, and this 1.09 patch is still considered beta.  After running the the beta patch, i literally had a 100% jump in frame rates.  Thats huge.  Full version coming soon.

The keys to enjoying Armed Assault are first to remember, ITS NOT BF2.  It requires patience, practice and team work to live through a mission.  Also remember that ArmA, out of the box, is actually very plain.  The real fun comes when you join a community that makes use of the 1000+ mods which are out and has talented scripters creating missions.  One such community is www.arma-tow.com.  We've taken the base game and added popular mods to create an "official" tourny pack that greatly enhance game play.  Combine that with a high level of organization with the armies and highly skilled tactical players and ArmA turns from a frustrating, "boring" game... into a great gaming experience.

It is a very very good game. I thought the demo was utter crap, but i was convinced and bought it, never looked back since. This game is %100 the best with a clan and TS.

You can make missions yourselves with the easy to use editor (easy to use after a samll tutorial) and from there you can make a missions 6 hours long! Mind you the longest mission i did was 15 hours, of course we didnt do it all in 1 go, we left the server and re-joined with join in progress where the server would keep playing when you were away.

People mak awesome missions online aswell, as you heard before evolution is decent, but i prefer a sharani life game where its like grand theft auto with a few additions.

Not sure what you mean by that exactly.  If you're unsure on where to start or what to do, just pop into our forums and ask.  Anyone, including myself, will gladly help get new guys setup and playing.  We've had guys come in who had uninstalled ArmA and finally decided to give it one more try.  Then after playing in one of our battles, there were like "holly crap i can't believe ive been missing out on this".

Also I wanted to link to these 2 vids for those who think ArmA looks crappy.  These are a couple of my favorites.  Very well done.

I HATED the demo...so terrible.  But I have to admit, the gfx look amazing, and apparently there is some amazing gameplay as well.  There is a HUGE following for this game so it can't be as bad as I think it is.  I will buy this at my local Gamespot and try the full version with patches.

The videos on youtube make me drool btw.  There are some awesome things in this game.

edit: bad grammar.

lol I did not make those video's.  Those are just two of my favorites.  They were made by ArmA community players.  Both of them are well known for their ability to make in-game action vids using Armed Assault.   But as far as getting the AI controlled players to do specific things, there are websites that give all the scripting commands and instructions.  And remember, for those wanting to try this game again or for the first time check out arma-tow.com     "For Players, By Players"

ArmA is cool if you like a more slower style of gameplay.... Multiplayer is much about waiting, walking for hours, waiting, shooting, got hit, respawn, walking... But I like it!

The editor is pure sex!

Ha!  You should try it how we play!  Yes it's slower paced than BF2.  More realistic.  But, if you die, we have Forward Spawn Points.  You spawn back at your base, then go to a Map Board where you can select any of the cities your army owns and spawn to them to rejoin your team.  Or, you can choose to spawn at what we call an MHQ (mobile head quarters).  Which is a vehicle your squad can keep near them so dead troops can rejoin their squad and the fight quickly.  Respawn times are set to 1 min, to let you think about your mistake. lol  But thats the great thing about arma, you can make it any game type you want.
